Description

ICEM cache.

Muckadilla is a town and locality in the Maranoa RegionQueensland, Australia.[1][2]

Hidden to be part of the ICEM series.

I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack.  Other towns have been included by some talented GCA members who have created some extra verses just for this ICEM series.

The town lies in the northern part of the locality. The Western railway line passes through the locality from east to west. The town is serviced by the Muckadilla railway stationimmediately to the north of the town. The Warrego Highway passes from east to west through the town, mostly being parallel immediately south of the railway line.[3]

Muckadilla Creek flows from Mount Bindango to the north down to the south-east of Muckadilla to Mount Abundance, passing just west of the town. The creek becomes Cogoon River and then is a tributary of the Balonne River.[3]

The land is mostly 350-400m above sea level and used for grazing and cropping. Some of the slopes of the higher peaks (to 470m) in the south-west of the locality remain densely forested.[3]

History[edit]

The name Muckadilla was first used as the creek name, which in turn is believed to be an Aboriginal word (language and dialect unknown) to mean plenty of water.[1]

Muckadilla Provisional School opened on 25 January 1886. It was proclaimed Muckadilla State School on 1 January 1909.[4] The school was mothballed at the end of 2008, then closed in 2009.[5]

In 1889, the Queensland Government drilled a bore at Muckadilla. Although the water supply found was quite small, it was believed that it had healing properties and people flocked to Muckadilla in search of a cure.[6] Dr E.W. Kerr of Brisbane endorsed the water, claiming it had cured "obstinate rheumatism" in some of his patients.[7] The baths were popular and, in 1939, John McEwan Hunter proposed that a sanitorium should be built there to better allow people to improve their "rheumatism, arthritis, uritus, digestion, nerves and general health".[8]

Popular culture[edit]

Muckadilla is one of the towns listed in the first verse of I've Been Everywhere.

We continued our wnder north and as we wandered we come to a timy place called Muckadilla. Everything was closed at this early hour but there was an unfound ICEM cache. We had to stop. We waited while a road train thundered by before making our way to GZ where we untangled the container from the guardian's nets. We could then sign the log and add another ICEM to our Australian loop.

Thanks for another ICEM in Australia's longest cache series Cachin in the Bush. The container and contents were in good condition.

The parking spot near the cache wasn't big enough for us so it meant a sprint across the bridge. A quick find of a well preserved cache... I do love these hides! TFTC youngoldfella.

I was getting ever closer to 'home' for the night but this was far too tempting for a stop for a look. Wink Once at GZ, the geo-obvious location soon had me signing the log at 16:55 and I was back on my way. Very Happy

TNLNSL. Thanks youngoldfella.

#GA5593 - 10:20; Day three of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune and after spending the night in Surat, set out to collect the local caches before heading further afield. It would be a long day on the road as we added dragonZones and counties to our caching maps. The many places visited included Roma, Muckadilla, Wallumbilla, Jackson, Taroom, Theodore and Eidsvold and on to Mundubbera for the night. Parked close and after emptying a fair bit of debris, it looked like the cache was a victim of recent flooding. Replaced with a spare (hope this is okay) as it seemed a shame to lose an ICEM cache. Day 3 of a road trip to Townsville with LuckyL10n and today was a big driving day hitting up a few GCA caches. We left Surat early and headed through Roma, Muckadilla, Wallumilla, Taroom, Theodore, Eidsvold before stopping the night at Mundubbera. All up 7 GCA caches and 30 odd from the other site.

We checked the area as per the hint however all we could find was debris. The water has obviously been high around the area and we think the cache may have been washed away. Having a spare container with us, we decided to replaced the cache. Hope this is ok....

Thanks for another cache from your itinerary YOF.
