Description

A telephone booth, telephone kiosk, telephone call box, telephone box or public call box is a small structure furnished with a payphone and designed for a telephone user's convenience.

Such a booth usually has lighting, a door to provide privacy, and windows to let others know if the booth is in use. The booth may be furnished with a printed directory of local telephone numbers, and a booth in a formal setting, such as a hotel, may be furnished with paper and pen and even a seat. An outdoor booth may be made of metal and plastic to withstand the elements and heavy use, while an indoor booth (once known as a silence cabinet) may have more elaborate architecture and furnishings. Most outdoor booths feature the name and logo of the telephone service provider.

I was at our local shops, and quickly took a photo of the only phone box we have in the area now.
I wonder if it is ever used...

I didn't have my GSP with me so I took a photo with my car in the background as proof I was here. These are the famous red phone boxes in Ross. The left one is decoration, the right still was a working phone.
Although Ross is off the highway, it has 2 wonderful bakeries and clean public toilets, so worth a visit.

Located this working phone box in South Arm, Tasmania (I checked). This would be 10 minutes from my home so handy to know if the mobile networks drop out. TFTL

Found this working phone in Bourke Street Melbourne. The Telstra phone outside an Optus store amused me. The Telstra store is on the other side of the road. My caching teddy-Miss Chief- features in the photo as I can’t do selfies.

We were caching in the NE part of Tasmania a week or so ago when we were surprised to find a working public phone in the little seaside town of Beechworth.
Our photo shows Mr Beetle pretending to use it.

Spotted this working phone in Miller Street Bargara QLD while I was there a couple weeks ago. Catching up on Locationless caches now during our isolation times.

The area around this phone box is pristine. The lawn is mown, edges have been whipper snipped and not a piece of rubbish in sight. I think the locals take pride in what is the only phone box in the area.

Thanks for the locationless JohnoMawbs.....

A working phone box (booth) across the road from Berry Railway Station.

Unlike a previous find, this one takes coins. 50 cents will give you 10 minutes to Australian mobiles. The booth is nothing like your description & offered me no shelter when it started to rain. The only thing waterproof I had on were my shoes. This locationless brought to memory the old red phone boxes that had two steel buttons A & B. There was a way you could get free calls. Further along the time scale my son, who was at TAFE, would phone me using a public phone (without putting coins in) & could get one word in before being cut off - Dad. I'd then go & pick him up.

Several years ago I caught a train to Berry & as I walked past the booth sunlight reflected off some silver coins. As I bent down to retrieve them I saw a $5 note. Paid for the days travel with a small profit.

Thanks.

Spotted this phone booth while enjoying a cone from the homemade ice cream shop out in the jetty area at Coffs Harbour. Haven't used one of these for a long time, not since pre-mobile days with a pre-paid Telstra Phone card - they were great until mobiles took over!
Anyways, thanks JohnoMawbs for setting up this fun locationless - enjoyed spotting this phone booth and taking out of the ordinary and making it into a cache!
Cheers

Our nearest public Telephone is at Dunkirk Avenue and the booth has shrunk considerably over the years. No longer the old fashioned red box, now it is only a semblance of its former self.
Thanks for the Locationless JohnoMawbs

Not too far from where I live is an old telephone booth. With a mailbox nearby it serves as a handy reference point ("YOu know you go past the towing business then there's the telephone booth and mailbox...") I can confirm that I have used this booth for both shelter and to make calls, though the door seems to be missing these days. And today this booth would only accept cards (no coins). Do people still have phone cards?! I remember using them 25 years ago... The newsagents would buy used ones who would on-sell them to collectors, phone cards with only a single hole were the most sought after... TFTC!

We were in Drysdale today on the Bellarine Peninsula when we parked next to a Telstra Phone Box. We took the opportunity to take the required photo for this cache. The photo added to the Gallery shows Mrs y'stassie using the phone. Thanks JohnoMawbs for the cache.

We recently cruised to New Zealand and our first port of call was the Bay of Plenty. Well you never know when you will need photos of various subjects for locationless caches, so when we spotted this active phone box we just had to add it to the collection.
The active phone box is in the main street, and a very busy tourist destination. Glad we took the pic as it paid off for this find.TFTC Very Happy

Seeing how there is a locationless cache for 'Disused Phone Boxes' (GA8294), I decided on making a cache to highlight active and still usable phone boxes. As I live nearby to this one, I decided on starting you off with the Temora Apex Park Phone Box. A nice easy one to find and for people to use at anytime because the phone box is lit up at all times. The reason my photo was blurry and without my GPS is because I needed to crop my photo so that the muggles were not in the shot (for privacy reasons). I hope everyone enjoys this cache as much as I did creating it. Very Happy
