Description
Watego's Beach, from GZ. |
Come and see where the beautiful people play. Wategos Beach area would have to be the most 'ritzy' relaxation area in Byron. The beach is perfect, every day. The houses and properties built on the ajacent land are statley dwellings and a Byron Bay's most expensive. There are grassy areas to rest upon, and the golden sand and azure blue waters coax the young holiday makers in droves. There's no shortage of a six pack or a fake tit at this beach. Probably the highest amount of selfie sticks per capita too. It's a great beach - awesome for kids too, usually very safe for swimming. There are some BBQs close by and picnic tables too. It's often a destination for wedding ceremonies too. Wategos beach was named after the family that settled on this steep bit of land. They grew bananas and vegies and sold them to local and Sydney markets. In 1961 Council put up for auction 86 lots of land in Wategos. The average price in 1961 was $700, in 1970, $2320. It would take over 25 years for all of the lots to be sold and built on. The cache is located right there at the beach - only a few steps from the sandy shores. It's hidden in plain sight. Much like all the curves of the beach goers. |

We parked here and walked out to Cape Byron from here. There was some complaining to start with but they soon forgot about that and enjoyed the scenery, especially the crashing waves.
Thanks again MattyRx
I was lucky to find a parking space almost right on top of this cache. I only needed to wait for the super early morning surfer at tge car beside me to finish packing and leave. It was a quick easy find after that.
It really is a beautiful area here. It's just a shame it's so crowded all the time.
Thanks for the cache Mr Rx.
God. it feels like the last time I was in Byron was for a free Wolfmother gig at the beachy a few years back where the singer was drunkenly slagging offghe audience and had to be carried out over the shoulder of a bouncer when he jumped into the crowd swinging, boy that was a laugh, but I guess completely irrelevant in this context so I digress...
was smashing a few beers walking though the conservation area nearby and happened to spot this fella tucked away. said to ktb well bugger me that looks like a cache. haha yep it sure was. this is now my second accidental mattyrx find. cheers mate, a cracker of a spot innit?
it's a shame I didn't think to check out the app because I was just down on the rocks at the most easterly point having a cheeky one and missed your cache there. looks like it's on the list for next time.
thanks for the fun, happy caching.
The beautiful people were not out today but then it was spitting. Perhaps they turn ugly if they get wet!!!!
Thanks.
Out and about caching around Byron Bay with Tassie Trekkers and this was one we found. This type of hide is just so good, it is in plain sight and secure and no one is none the wiser except the seeker. A bit windy and wet today but still plenty of muggles around. TFTC
Caching in the area with whitewebbs on a wet and cloudy day and this was one of the caches we found. Some surfers catching the waves here. Made a quick find of a familiar MattyRx cache.
Many thanks MatttyRx for publishing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience.

After dinner we decided to go for a drive. Last time we were here it was so crowded we couldn't get a park, this time there was nobody around!
Possibly as it crazy windy here!!
It didn't take long for 1MM to spot something tucked away, yay a GCA FTF!
However, we were still happy to head for this one, which would be a little more sheltered at least, and also was yet to have a find on it. Arriving at GZ, there was one other car near here, but our search was safe, and it wasn't long before we had a cache in hand. And with that, a blank logbook. WOOHOO! my first day of GCA caches and my first ever GCA **FTF** to boot! Thanks for the cache MattyRx.
With this in mind we made sure to pick our timing a little differently. Like at night with a cyclone off the coast!!!
Certainly no muggles around then
After finding the most eastern GC we thought very hard about trying for the new even more eastern and more extreme GCA cache. Then we thought that we didn't want to die tonight so decided to leave it for another time.
Instead we made our way to this more sheltered and easily accessible one. Thanks to the weather and darkness all the beautiful people were nowhere to be seen.... just three crazy people instead. A bit of a poke and prod around the area and 1MInnieMoo spotted the cheeky container. It fits right in! We were all excited to find a blank logbook as well Woohoo! My first GCA **FTF**
Thanks for the smiley MattyRx
