Description

Lake Macquarie Sculpture Park

Lake Macquarie Sculpture Park

Welcome to the Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery Sculpture Park

Enter via the Gateway Sculpture (by Trevor Weeks) which was commissioned to mark the entrance to the new gallery which opened in May 2001, and then wander the grounds enjoying the views of Lake Macquarie and the 11 sculptures.

You can enjoy one of the sculptures – Hear the Art (by Richard Tipping) before you come by checking out the Satellite picture of the area. It is a visual poem with a few words and phrases incorporated into it.

One of my favourites is the Love Boat by Ted Prior

The Gallery is worth a visit too, and whenever I visit my Uncle, who lives nearby, a visit to the Gallery is high on the list of things to do (along with wine drinking in the Hunter). The Gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday between 10am and 5pm (and some public holidays). Best of all Admission is Free. When I visited in January 2009 the exhibition had photos taken by Hurley (during Scott’s Antarctic Expedition) and Ponting (during Schakleton’s Antarctic Expedition), but alas that is long gone now.

It is not a huge gallery, so doesn’t take too long to visit, but is also big enough that they get good exhibitions through. Also in the gallery you can pick up a leaflet outlining all the sculptures in the park.

To claim a find, initally locate the plaque at the given coordinates next to the Aeolian Tree (by John Turier). The first line is “John Turier”. Email the second line to [email protected] and upload a photo of yourself, or your navigator next to your favourite sculpture in the park.

This virtual cache replaces my initial cache here Artistic Fingers (GC1M4Y9) which is now emtombed in concrete at the entrance to the park. If you previously found Artistic Fingers feel free to log this cache without emailing me.

Enjoy

Mr Beetle waited in the van while I walked across to check out the sculptures. Some were okay, one I really liked and others were just plain strange.
But an interesting place to visit so thanks for bringing us here with this cache.

#GA2629 - 14:10; Day two of the 2018 Oz Geomuster mission with Sol de lune. albida33 would be joining us today to hunt down the 'OZ GM' trail. Before hitting the road for the day though, there was time to catch up with a few more fellow cachers and perhaps sign a few more cacher logs. After breakfast, I headed around the traps with Sdl and we did indeed find some fine fellow cachers with their own cacher caches. We then hit the road and as well as working on the trail, we were hunting GC Lab caches as we went. One of them involved a visit to the Sculpture Park, so grabbed the information for this cache as we passed. Email duly sent to the CO for the OK. A great area to visit. Wish I'd had more time to wander around here today! TFTC calumphing_four Very HappyClan Cerberus

Visited this park today - lovely spot.
Answer has been sent to the CO.
Many thanks for setting up this virtual.

Still waiting on CO confirmation that I can post the find, but my memory knows I'll forget to log this later. This place is really cool. Enjoyed my first whereigo cache, a wander through the William Dobell exhibition, lunch in the cafe, and wander through the house (with staff permission). My fave sculpture is probably the newest one - Radiolarians. I love rusty metal objects and this one is ornate and interesting. Good times. TFTV Smile

Miss Shifter liked the sculptures, so we let her choose her favourite.
Unfortunately the gallery was in the process of changing exhibits so there was very little to see inside.

Found this when it was Artistic Fingers, and as it's not a new cache, just changed to a Virtual to accommodate having been concreted in, I thought I'd log it for the same time I actually found it originally so as to not confuse any FTF's.
