I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Girraween is mentioned in the fourth verse.

 

Girraween - Postcode 4382. As far south in QLD as you can get. Also as cold as it gets in the sunshine state. This area is the only place in QLD that receives snow.

Girraween means ‘a place of flowers’. There are wildflowers here are times, but ‘a place of granite rocks’ would have been a little more accurate in the naming of this place.

Girraween is mostly national park. And what a national park it is. Some of the best hikes, climbs and scenery. Places to swim when it’s hot. BBQs when it’s cold. And plenty of camping. No wonder half of Brisbane and the Gold Coast turn up here on a long weekend.

The cache is located near an area known as the Underground Creek. Like some sort of freaky magic, Bald Rock Creek flows underneath the granite boulders here. There are lots of nooks to climb into and see it. You can spend hours here exploring the granite, so allow plenty of time. This aint no park and grab.

Park at Dr Robert’s Waterhole Carpark. From here there are two short walks. Follow the signs to the Underground Creek. Once there, walk to the left - around all the granite rocks – heading slightly uphill. You’ll come out at some flat granite area. Careful of the holes and valleys in the rock. Little ones should be watched closely. The cache is hidden in a crack in the granite, with a small rock on top. There’s a nice waterhole up here for a swim in the hot weather. It’s a small waterproof container with some swaps. The trek in from the carpark is 3km return.
