Description

Digger Elks Bridge

Established during the 1880s, Alma Park received its name in 1893 when local school children assembled to plant one hundred trees within its grounds. The first tree was planted by Alma O'Connor, daughter of the Mayor, Alderman O'Connor, and the park now bears her name in remembrance of the occasion.

In springtime, brightly coloured flower beds complement the many grand old trees planted by Alma and her friends all those years ago. A meandering pathway leads visitors past a locally forged iron lace rotunda and down to the picturesque Uralla Creek where an ageing footbridge beckons walkers to continue on to the slightly more challenging walk around nearby Mount Mutton.

Alma Park is a peaceful and relaxing place to stop for a break with plenty of room for caravan and campervan parking. Facilities in the park include toilets, a children's playground, Liberty Swing and two free electric barbecues.

Heading home from the QLD mega with LuckyL10n and this was our next stop. LL did the honours here while I stood guard. Cache was found without issue and our names were soon in the log. Cache was returned and were off to the next one.

Thanks for another one TT....

#GA5204 - 15:15; Day 11 of a road trip with Sol de lune for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega and we are now headed for home. After spending the night in Glen Innes, we headed south caching our way through Ben Lomond, Guyra, Armidale and on to Uralla. Enjoyed the $10 lunch special at the Thunderbolt Inn before tackling the local Adventure Lab a few more of the local caches, including this one. A crowd of muggles in the park today, but nobody paid much attention to a couple of old blokes inspecting the bridge! Despite recent flooding, the cache was located safe and sound and the log signed. Got my hand on it but struggled to retrieve from hidey hole as my arms are not long enough! Logging as a find as I saw and touched it but could not sign unfortunately!

Called here yesterday but dog walkers aplenty. Quieter today. In a tight hard to reach spot, ideal, signed & the replacement was far easier. Thanks.

Thanks for this cache Tassie Trekkers! Right in my own backyard Wink Well almost, but I can see the bridge from my back deck! Me and my dog enjoyed finding this one. Cheers

Now that the cache has been found, I will log a find as we were with the COs when the cache was hidden. A lovely bridge and close to where we stayed in the Caravan Park. TFTC

Alma Park is a popular spot for travellers taking a break and when it's not in the grip of drought the gardens are beautiful. And now we're back from a trip up north, we're finally able to look for the new cache. We could have found it a bit sooner but there was an obstacle (though MrG thinks I'm finicky).... I just couldn't get my head around driving about with a slippery slide strapped to the roof of the car Confused So now without the hideous look of a large slide on a small car we came to find the cache before the double dragonzone points finished, not to mention a FTF - though to be honest competition's not that fierce for FTF's around here. Woohoo, a pathtag and {FTF} at 2.15pm, thanks for both Tassie Trekkers.
