Description

The village of Laura takes its name from the nearby river which was named by the explorer Archibald McMillan, after his wife Laura Bower.

Although this cache is situated in this tiny village it is not near the Quinkan Regional Cultural Centre for which Laura has become famous as the area is home to the largest collection of prehistoric rock art in the world. The art was rediscovered by a pilot Percy Tresize, who had seen some of it from the air and set about trying to find it on foot.

The cache is indeed found in a shady park where you can learn more about the history .

The terrain rating takes into account the road conditions met on our way north in 2019, not necessarily at GZ.

Wow. A First to Find in Lovely Laura
While staying in Cooktown for a few days we travelled along the Battlecamp Rd and visited Endeavour Falls, Isabella Falls and the old Laura Homestead.
Many thanks for giving us another reason for a return visit to the gateway to Cape York ClappingDancing
