Description
Before crossing the bridge over the Mission River, heading out of Weipa, you will need to park up well before the bridge and walk to this cache. It is definitely not a drive by. Or you could follow the track that the local fishermen use to get down to the beach under the bridge where they launch their boats at high tide and walk back up the stairs.
The locality based around the river was probably given its name during 1895 by missionary J. Nicholas Hey and administrator John Douglas (Government Resident of Thursday Island). It is one locality around what is now known as Weipa. What a great little mining town this is. Besides the work, there is plenty of sport for the young and not so young including football, BMX, motocross, swimming, tennis, squash, golf and bowls. That's not counting the highly popular fishing and for those so inclined pig hunting. Now of course there is geocaching as well.
The terrain rating is higher than GZ due to the roads that you travel to arrive in Weipa. So if you are a local try T1.5.
