Description
Moonbi Lookout can be accessed from north and southbound lanes of the New England Highway.
Moonbi Range rises from 500 - 1,300 metres above sea level. Banjo Patterson wrote in his poem 'Over the Range' of the obstacle the Moonbi Range created for travellers to the Northern Tablelands. Over the years many different routes were used to traverse the steep rocky slopes with even the current one being closed for 8 hours in 1998 when two truck-sized boulders fell on the northbound highway.
While Moonbi Lookout is a rest area it has also been approved for 24 hour overnight stays. There are toilets, picnic tables, shelters, bins, plenty of fresh air and spectacular views any time but sunsets can be magnificent.
The cache is a 750ml fruit container containing log, pen & pencil, stashnote and swaps. Please cover well and take care to be stealthy.
Congratulations Tuena - FTF

All in great condition and well hidden.
Google maps decided to detour me around north of Tamworth. I got to experience Moonbi Gap Rd for the first time ever. It was dusk and I could still see the giant granite hills either side of me. I was so glad I'd drifted to my destination this way. They looked amazing!
I arrived here in the dark, got my comfy clothes and ug boots on ready to sleep, cleared the seats to attempt sleeping on because my airbed I used Friday night didn't stay inflated many hours, and cooked up a coffee and mi-goring noodles on my tiny butane cooker. While waiting for the water to boil I thought I'd see if there were any cool trigs nearby I could watch sunrise at. And what do you know, I discover there's a cache right here!
So after cooking up the noodles I took them with me to eat at the lookout. After spending a little time enjoying the large dark empty expanse around me, it was time to go back and get that coffee (I sleep better on an instant/fake coffee) and find the cache on the way. It had me puzzled for a bit but I eventually noticed a good hiding spot and there it was!
I was tempted to take Zac the Zookeeper (I named a swag figurine) as a companion for the remainder of my trip and he could live with me in my tiny home. He'd fit quite well being so tiny. But I figured all he had to offer me was carrots, and they are a bit boring on their own, so decided to turn and walk away from him. You'll love the photo attached that I took off him. Hahaha. Told you it was dark. Hahaha.
Thanks for the cache to distract me for a bit.
This gave us the ideal opportunity to find this muggle free, though we had to find the cache in the dark as plenty of people seem to come up here to watch the sunset.
Don't know how we would have managed this one during the day without copping some pretty serious questions from onlookers. We aren't that sneaky.
Thanks for the Cache.
Thanks for another one geono.
One of the GCA Trads we found along the way. A lovely area to visit - awesome lookout.
TFTC !!
Thanks
