Description

Munro Martin Parklands was Cairns' first recreation reserve, being gazetted in 1882. Formerly known as Norman Park,  after Sir Henry Norman, Governor of Queensland (1888-1895) , it was renamed after two half sisters in 1956. They were Janet Munro and Margaret Martin who were well known and respected for their work and generous support for such public recreational spaces.

This park has undergone an incredible transformation from when I first saw it and is now the pride of Cairns for outdoor Arts Entertainment Events ranging from ballet, to Opera and popular entertainers such as Angus and Julia Stone and Neil Finn who appeared on the largest stage of its kind in Australia.

The beautifully manicured lawns, hedges, shrubs and covered pergolas are a wonder to behold, especially considering it is only 3 years from its reopening to the placement of this cache. Bring your family and enjoy a picnic after strolling around the grounds. Oh yes and find the cache as well!

The  D rating reflects the muggle value of the GZ of the cache.

I honestly can't remember my last physical GCA find! On holidays in town and went for a wander after the aquarium. Our second visit there, well worth a visit. Cache located in a logical spot. Was full of ants! Cleaned them out, signed and replaced. Log dry for now. Cheers from Sydney!

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 28. Cairns section Day 12. Today I joined Smitten Granny for caching in the Northern part of Cairns, from Redlynch to some of the northern beaches. We targeted caches that I had missed on previous visits and some of the newer ones in the area. The rain held off for the morning and we stopped caching after lunch at a Trinity Beach Bakery.

I had a look for this one last year, but failed to find it. Today I decided to have another look before requesting it be replaced, and what do you know ? I found it ! Neatly hidden, exactly where I would expect a cache to reside.

Thanks for the cache Smittengranny

I went on a week long trip to Cairns to escape the Canberra region and do a little diving and some exploration with caching to keep me busy. The warm weather was refreshing after the Canberra winter. As usual after flying up there was lots of walking but it was great to be out. Day 4. After a few days Diving I had two days to spend before my next trip. I hired a car and went on a bit of a trip after some early caching around Cairns and the Northern beaches. First stop was Kuranda, then Mareeba, Mt Molloy and down to Pt Douglas for dinner.

I had a good look around the trellis poles, but, did not manage to locate this one.

Thanks

Unfortunately no sign of the cache at the co-ordinates or other close similar places.

Here for the day, with the Queen Elizabeth ship. I found the cache loosely attached. It is precarious. TFTC Smittengranny.

This one ended up being an easy find as the magnet was loose and it was on the ground. We have replaced it 'behind the vine' at the same elevation but there is no guarantee it will stay in place.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this geocache experience here for us today.
