Description
At GZ you can learn all there is to know about Tinaroo (Falls) Dam. Construction of this important dam on the Barron River for the Atherton Tablelands, began in 1953 and took 5 years to complete. It not only supplies irrigation water to the Mareeba -Dimbulah Area but is also a hydro power station. It provides town water for surrounding townships; recreational areas for the locals and the numerous tourists who flock here each year as well as regulating the water flow for use at the Barron Gorge Power Station some 81 kms downstream.
There are picnic areas nearby and I would recommend using them and enjoying this beautiful area.

Staying at Mareeba, we ventured further afield, caching along the way. What a great lookout.
Searched for this cache, but no luck. Have replaced cache with a magnetic bison inside bottom of gate.
Thanks Smittengranny for bringing us here.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 45. Cooktown to Atherton travel day. I headed off after packing up in the rain and getting quite wet, but of course as I got a bit out of town it stopped raining. The Black mountain rocks looked very broody in the mist, and I dove straight past Lakeland. A quick stop in Mount Molloy and on past Mareeba. At last as I reached Tolga there was some caching to do. I moved onto Atherton and set up camp in a town van park and went out for a few more in the late afternoon. A longer day than I have had for a bit now.
I had a good look at the magnetic surfaces without any luck.
Thanks for the cache Smittengranny
