I've Cached Everywhere, Man - GCA Geocache Series

Wonglepong

I've Cached Everywhere, Man is the largest cache series hidden in Australia. It is made up of the locations made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. Wonglepong is mentioned in the 8th verse, written by geono.

Wonglepong was the name of the nearby railway station from 1927 - before that it was called Sarah Vale. It's thought that the name is derived from an aboriginal word meaning 'forgotten sound', or maybe some feature of Mount Tamborine. But me thinks that someone challenged someone else to come up with a ridiculous name for a town, and this was number one on their list. A comprehensive todo list of Wonglepong features and attractions is below:

and that's it.

You're looking for a small cache, in the dead centre of town. There another cache from another site close by - but this one, of course, is better.

Mr RX, FRANKlin I am disappointed. WONGLEPONG is a fine name. In fact it could BE-NOBBLE, and to suggest otherwise is just BIDDADDABA. Your humour is just BOY LAND. Very Happy

Still I forgive you, as there was a cache to find. It seems to have acquired a cache guardian as noted in the photo.

Thank you for the lovely cache. As Mrs Petan says, all is good.

Another thing Wonglepong has, or used to have, is a train bridge from when Canungra was serviced by QR from Beaudesert. We once went looking for bridge remnants in the creek nearby, battling the lantana and other weeds on the creek bank. Our adventures were curtailed when a local who happened to park nearby asked us what we were doing. When we relayed our quest he alerted us to the red belly blacks which had been spotted in that location in recent days. Needless to say we still have not spotted the remnants. Fortunately, we did find the ICEM cache with absolutely no signs of joe blacks in attendance.

Thanks for the cache. All is good with the container and contents.

We were on our way to the Gold Coast and unexpectedly, via Wonglepong. I had no idea if Wonglepong was on the way to anywhere so it's good to be able to put it on the map so to speak. Wedged between the elite horsey places and the popular to-the-the-point-of-congested eateries of Canungra is Wonglepong. Wonglepong has none of these things but it's streets ahead in the wacko town naming category.... and it has two GCA caches. Enjoyed our stop in the quiet of the town even with getting two shoefulls of Wonglepong dirt while grabbing the cache. Laughing All good with the cache though we gave it some cover which was lacking when we arrived. Great to be crossing off another in the ICEM series. TFTC MattyRx

We noticed this cache published last night and would not brave the cold weather ,so today with some warm sunshine out we made the short trip from home and spotted a likely spot on arrival ,after checking the GPS we headed straight over to GZ ,signed the log and returned to its hide TFTC **FTF**
