Description
Although this area used to be a thriving small town in the 1880s it is now mostly frequented by tourists. Some come to view the historical chimney that dominates the skyline, others come for a break in their journey along the Gulf Development Road or Highway #1. Grey Nomads in particular enjoy overnight stays in the clean free camp where they can take in the beautiful water views. The dam that was built during the gold mining dayz remains a haven for birdlife. Whilst there we spotted pelicans, egrets, cormorants, honey eaters, magpie geese, rainbow bee eaters, pink eared ducks, black ducks, brolgas as well as magpies, mudlarks, apostle birds, double barred finches and willy wagtails. I hope you enjoy this srea as much as we did.

The twitchers and most birds were keeping a low profile on this wet day. I stepped up to make the find. Finding another cache here, I did see one bird, but a water bird, not worried it seemed to come out in the rain. TFTC Smittengranny.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 63. Western Creek Station near Georgetown to Croydon. After a lazy night in a remote area without power or internet, I was again roused by the birds and headed off soon after I was up. I returned to the highway at Georgetown and started west to Croydon. I only made one stop, at the Cumberland Chimney and dam. Then it was on to Croydon for lunch and a walk around town.
After waking around the dam to visit the GC cache, I had a look around to see what else was here and saw this GA, just back from where I had stopped. Plenty of spider webs, but the cache was found quickly this time.
Thanks for the cache Smittengranny
