Description
Have a photo of yourself taken at a Mechanic’s Institute
Once you would find a Mechanic’s Institute in nearly every town. Nowadays they are a bit harder to find.
Mechanics' Institutes are educational establishments, originally formed to provide adult education, particularly in technical subjects, to working men. As such, they were often funded by local industrialists on the grounds that they would ultimately benefit from having more knowledgeable and skilled employees.
The Mechanics' Institutes were used as 'libraries' for the adult working class, and provided them with an alternative pastime to gambling and drinking in pubs.

Footscray Mechanics Institute.
Out on a warm afternoon to check out the local garden shops for some ideas, I came across the Footscray Mechanics Institute (see attached photos and plaque).
Thanks for placing this locationless to highlight some of the lesser know points of interest in the suburbs.

Mechanics Institute at Morongla Creek, NSW.
As we drove from Sydney to Cowra we noticed this Mechanics Institute and remembered it was a locationless cache. A quick u-turn to get a photo or two and we were on our way again.
We can see by the signs on the front of the building it is currently being used by the CWA and Red Cross.
Thanks Cybergran V.

As we headed east on our way home we came across the Allanford Mechanics Hall. It is obviously a valued community facility as the plaque beside the main door is headed "The Allansford Mechanics Institute Hall Restoration Project". Two photos have been added to the Gallery. Thanks Cybergran V for the cache.
Mechanics Institute and School of Arts, Nowra
Designed by Cyril Blacket, it was erected for £2,500 in 1891 when there was a body of the same name, and it became the centre of the town’s social life. Although threatened with demolition in the 1980s, it has survived. It has been painted in the colours of the time & is well maintained & in constant use. I've found a few of these but no longer attach myself to a photo. Too many wackoes out there. Added my thumb via my phone so will add the photo once I work out how to do so. Thanks.

I would have thought there would have been a Locationless for this but after searching the words Mechanic’s and Institute the only caches I could find were B & W ones.
If there is one in existence I will be happy to delete this one.
Maybe there was orig8nally one that has been archived.
Anyway I found this one in the tiny town of Betley, now long since it’s days of glory, but still there.
Let’s see how many different ones we can log here.
