How exciting to find an old lock for this cache. This lock is still in use at the Spring Bluff rail station.

QLD Mega trip 2015 with Sol de Lune. On this almost 400km road trip we drove from Canberra to Stanthorpe caching in all the towns along the way with mostly great success. Around the Mega there were heaps of caches to be done including a few power trails. Despite the weather we got all of the planned caches done.
On the way home we saw the entrance to an old time museum at Inverell with this amazing old lock on the front gate. Thanks.

I had just found a cache on the corner of the reloacted old Muckadilla Railway Station and noticed that one of the locks was of the old Government style used on Railway property. There are facilities her and a free overnight camp ground at the rear of the block. Muckadilla is west of Roma Qld about 30K. TFTC

Found this one today when we pulled up to grab the cache here.
Found some similar heavy duty locks on railway stations in outback Queensland but didn't realise at the time that there was a locationless for them.
Thanks.

I noticed this padlock on the door between two eating areas at the Ball & Chain Grill at Salamanca, Hobart.
Not sure if this padlock would be enough protection for this restaurant entrance ....

A couple of NSW Railways padlocks on Thirroul Station. Keep the bad guys out.
Today was the sixth day of our excursion out of Tasmania touring from Melbourne to Canberra and return via Gippsland. We visited a number of towns and areas today between Cooma and Queanbeyan in New South Wales and we were lucky enough to find some caches along the way. As happened yesterday, the day started very foggy but cleared quickly to a fine day with changing proportions of blue skies and broken cloud. This morning we wandered around Cooma and along the way, we went looking for this cache. All was relatively quiet near GZ despite the tourist train operating today. The train was currently out on the line and it wasn't due to return for about 30 minutes (we actually saw the train oit on the track about 90 minutes later). This gave us ample time to look around. The work that local volunteers have put in to maintain the railway heritage of the area is remarkable. Particularly impressive was a fully restored goods wagon originally used to carry explosives to Cooma for use in the construction of the Snowy Mountains Scheme. Included in the restoration was the complete refurbishment of six padlocks used to secure the explosives wagon. Talking later to one of the volunteers, he confimed that the padlocks had been in very poor repair but were totally refurbished in the restoration. He estimated that they were 70 to 80 years old. Photos have been added to the Gallery of the Explosives Wagon and one of the locks. TFTC
Found on the gate leading into the railway line area near Bush Baby cache.
I was gathering information as part of a multi and wondered whether the railway signal controll boxes across the road had a pad lock on them. Yes i was right they did but modern ones. Hold on whats that one. i have not seen one of these for awhile. Mets the criteria for this locationless so I took a photo of it just before it began to rain yet again today.

dont think i should log as 'found' as it is not permanent i found it for sale at the annual stathalbyn swap meet
was on holiday up Cairns way and did a day trip to Kuranda via the train trip. the plan was then to travel back by skyrail then a trip to an alligator tour.
So we came up through the rainforest on the train stopped at Barron Falls railway to see the falls and read the geology and history of the whole area, then up to Kuranda station. So after a long trip one tends to need, usually, to visit the bathroom. And hey presto what do I spy??? Thankyou for making my old brain active by making it keep active always looking.

Attempting a recently placed cache at Padstow (GC2YW35) and this was one of 3 padlocks noticed on the gates, one other was similar, the third was a newer style.
It is a great old Jacksons Brass padlock, with the old MWS&DB mark.

I didn't have my GPSr handy -- just my iPhone -- so had to show my fingerprints as a substitute!
Lots and lots of interesting things here, including railway memorabilia.
Took the two grandchildren, visiting from Queensland.
Great fun!

267. FFP and I wandered up to have a look at the old Geelong Goal. Unfortunately we were a bit late yesterday but did manage to score this find on the outside. Interestingly we asked the counter today about the chutes that this was locking and he had no idea. We later found out that the 3 trapdoors on two separate walls were for rocks to be pushed through for prisoners to break up to make material to build roads. Cool what caching can teach you.
TFTC and Mick Tarky for allowing us to use the image of his padlock.

These locks were used to imprison the convicts in the Seperate Prison and the exercise yards in which they were marched around in single file and with masks over their heads (See Picture). No one was allowed to speak; total silence except for the sound of their feet on the sand stone floors of their cells and the yards. The locks are on display as used in the Seperate Prison, Port Arthur Historic Site, Tasmania. TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.
While logging Hermitage trig at North Ryde we spotted the gate to the water tower had a heap of padlocks on it. One was an old fashioned MWS&DB lock. Have a look at the other locks too.
Found this at Gundagai railway station while searching for
GC1TFJ8.
To be honest I am surprised no one hasn't logged it yet.
There is no gps in the photo, but it is me.

This is a Crablock dated 1870 & patented by the NSW Railways. The mechanism works by drawing the bolts back inside the casing. You can see the likeness to a crab. Thanks for an interesting addition to these type of caches. I haven't included the co-ords for obvious reasons.
