Description

Kororoit Creek Walk - Pride Rock

Take an afternoon and have a walk along Kororoit Creek in Burnside and enjoy the wildlife including tiger snake, eastern blue-tongued lizard, common snakeneck turtle and eastern brown snake. Sighting are now rare with development driving most of the creatures away from the built-up areas.
Pride rock is of course the home of Mufasa, Sarabi and Simba as well as the rest of the lions from The Lion King, including Scar. This small version of pride rock sticks out here is the field of rocks and basalt and the cache is not too hard to find, but for goodness sake, if you're sticking your hand into or under anything, please check for slithery things first. They may not appear in The Lion King, but they will be in attendance around this location. You are looking for a 200ml Sistema container and when you do find and replace it be gentle with the rock coverage lest the small plastic container not match up to the power of million-year-old rock.
About Kororoit Creek
The Kororoit Creek rises below Mount Kororoit, northeast of Melton in the north western outer suburbs of Melbourne. The creek's headwaters are north of Sunbury at approximately 400 metres (1,300 ft) above sea level in Ordovician geology. The creek flows generally south by east and passes over the volcanic lava plain of western Melbourne to its mouth at sea level, north of Altona and emptying into Altona Bay within Port Phillip. The creek is joined by one minor tributary as it descends approximately 407 metres (1,335 ft) over its 52-kilometre (32 mi) course. At the outlet in Altona Bay, the creek winds its way through the Altona Coastal Park and then the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary Park, where it enters Port Phillip.
From east of Sunbury, the Kororoit Creek makes its way down through many suburbs towards its mouth, including the towns and suburbs of Rockbank, Caroline Springs, Burnside, Kings Park, Albanvale, Deer Park, Cairnlea, West Sunshine, Ardeer, Albion, Brooklyn and Altona North.
The creek is traversed by the Melton Highway, east of Melton; the Western Highway and the Western Ring Road, at Ardeer; and the West Gate Freeway and Federation Trail at Brooklyn. The Kororoit Creek Trail runs along the banks in the lower reaches of the creek.

#GA4996 - 09:11; In Melbourne with Sol de lune for a flying visit to collect some items and get them delivered in time for Christmas. After another early start today to drop off yesterday's goods, we then headed west to collect some of the newer caches which have appeared since our last visit, while we waited for the next goods collection point to open for business. The lake circuit made for a very pleasant stroll in ideal caching conditions. After collecting the last in the lake loop series, plus a couple of others in the area, we headed over to make a start on this series. A very pleasant morning for caching, with all caches again found in good condition. Idea This one just had to be didn't it Question TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

I decided to get out and about today.

Threw the bike in the car and headed out to find a few caches in the area here.

Only 3 dnf's of the 20+ that I managed to put my name on.

A couple of FTF's too.

Little windy riding in this spot.

However the cache was well hidden and found.

Admired the open space and soon then moved on.

When this series of caches were published we added them to our to find list for our March trip to South Australia. When we checked the status of these caches before we left we were very surprised to see that only 2 of the caches in the series of 30 had been found. We had noticed that the weekly Research Tasks had changed the way GCA cachers were choosing caches to find.

Today Spirit II berthed an hour earlier than usual and we had disembarked and were heading to Carolina Springs by 5:30. We started our search with this cache as access was easily located in the dark. After a short walk we quickly located the well hidden box. We had to do a little digging to extract the container as it had become stuck fast in the wet soil. The container and contents were in good condition. A blank log book gave us our first {FTF} at 6:12

Thanks for this cache caughtatwork. Alas our Research Tasks for this week did not contain finding large numbers of caches on the same day or finding a number of caches where the sum of Difficulty and Terrain is greater than 60. However we will not let that stop us from looking for these caches and we know we will enjoy the walk, seeing the range of scenery along the creek not to mention the prospect of a number of FTFs.
