Description

Kororoit Creek Walk - Mullum Mullum Aboriginal Site

Take an afternoon and have a walk along Kororoit Creek in Deer Park and enjoy the wildlife including tiger snake, eastern blue-tongued lizard, common snakeneck turtle and eastern brown snake. Sighting are now rare with development driving most of the creatures away from the built-up areas.
Please respect this site as it contains cultural material from the past activities. There is very extensive evidence of the occupation of this site by people of the Wurundjeri Tribe. It is one of the most significant Aboriginal Places in Victoria and part of the heritage of all Victorians.
At this location you will find a sign that explains why there is a great divide between the creek and the houses. The development of this area was delayed for years when the developer found these cultural sites and even sent them bankrupt as they couldn't develop, couldn't sell and still had to pay the banks back. Eventually the solution was to place the houses away from the cultural sites and continue with the development.
You will not need to search the Aboriginal areas to find this cache as it's hidden within arm’s reach of the sign and shouldn't present any issues with interfering with the cultural location.
About Kororoit Creek
The Kororoit Creek rises below Mount Kororoit, northeast of Melton in the north western outer suburbs of Melbourne. The creek's headwaters are north of Sunbury at approximately 400 metres (1,300 ft) above sea level in Ordovician geology. The creek flows generally south by east and passes over the volcanic lava plain of western Melbourne to its mouth at sea level, north of Altona and emptying into Altona Bay within Port Phillip. The creek is joined by one minor tributary as it descends approximately 407 metres (1,335 ft) over its 52-kilometre (32 mi) course. At the outlet in Altona Bay, the creek winds its way through the Altona Coastal Park and then the Jawbone Marine Sanctuary Park, where it enters Port Phillip.
From east of Sunbury, the Kororoit Creek makes its way down through many suburbs towards its mouth, including the towns and suburbs of Rockbank, Caroline Springs, Burnside, Kings Park, Albanvale, Deer Park, Cairnlea, West Sunshine, Ardeer, Albion, Brooklyn and Altona North.
The creek is traversed by the Melton Highway, east of Melton; the Western Highway and the Western Ring Road, at Ardeer; and the West Gate Freeway and Federation Trail at Brooklyn. The Kororoit Creek Trail runs along the banks in the lower reaches of the creek.

A short detour on my way home from the lake. There were a group of muggles in a nearby property cleaning up fallen branches from the recent storm.
I waited a few minutes for the coast to clear and soon had the cache in hand. Signed and replaced. All good down here by the creek today caughtatwork.
Thanks for the cache and the location. Clapping

#GA4998 - 09:22; In Melbourne with Sol de lune for a flying visit to collect some items and get them delivered in time for Christmas. After another early start today to drop off yesterday's goods, we then headed west to collect some of the newer caches which have appeared since our last visit, while we waited for the next goods collection point to open for business. The lake circuit made for a very pleasant stroll in ideal caching conditions. After collecting the last in the lake loop series, plus a couple of others in the area, we headed over to make a start on this series. A very pleasant morning for caching, with all caches again found in good condition. Managed to avoid the gaze of the workmen in the area while doing the retrieval and return of this cache thanks to the handy bush at GZ. TFTC caughtatwork Very HappyClan Cerberus

This was a very interesting walk to this cache. It was good to see that this area is being preserved.

Our GPS was very unsettled however an excellent hint enabled us to locate the hide. As we searched a small bird in the nearby tree angrily chided us as we located the container. Again we had to lever the container from its hide. After its long period of undisturbed rest the container has a beautiful layer of natural como material glued to its surface. Another blank log book and another {FTF} at 6:37.

Thanks for another good hide caughtatwork. Despite the damp exterior the contents of this cache were dry.
