Description

Find, photograph, and list coordinates of an Emergency Assembly Point near you

With the present spate of bushfires and floods in Australia at the moment, it is not only important to have your personal emergency evacuation in place, but to know where an Emergency Assembly area near you is.

Preferably know where several are, in different directions, in case you are cut off from one of them.

Most businesses have a specified area for their staff and customers to evacuate to in case of emergency but it is important to know where you can convene in your town or city as a citizen, especially after hours, at night and weekends.

I hope you never need to use this information, or have to use your evacuation plan, but it is good to be prepared.

CONGRATULATIONS blingg on FTF

Thankfully this area is very close to home. It was a good idea to refresh just where we have to meet in an emergency.

Our work at St Leonards has an area we are supposed to go to in case of fire alarms etc, but being an office building it isn't signposted, just a park around the corner. For natural disasters we have Neighbourhood Safer Places that are only really designed to be somewhere to go in case of bushfires. Though at 2km from the nearest bush I would hope I am safe except in cases of sustained ember attack. If cyclones start impacting Sydney then I expect the Westfield carpark may well be a better spot.

The Neighbourhood Safer Places aren't signposted on them, you need to know them through the RFS website. I guess it could also work during an earthquake. This one is the local oval at Waitara, about 3 minutes walk from home.

In preparation for this cache I drove around Shepparton looking for a sign and found this one at the back of the Council Offices, but was amazed that I didn’t see more of them near businesses.
I know when I was a Scout Leader our scout hall was the emergency evacuation centre if required, but if you search as I did on the internet for emergency evacuation centres, it gives a list of halls that may be used in the area, but there wasn’t one in the city area here. Now I have to get in touch with the Council and find out why.
Let’s see who will be the quickest to respond to this cache.
