Logs
Did reconnaissance on this cache yesterday after looking for and not finding Supply River Wall
Got back to just below GZ and didn't have the energy to do the climb
So after a good nights sleep, I returned this morning and did the climb as planned yesterday
Got to GZ without any hassles; which must be because of my "mountain goat" heritage
At GZ, a quick find was had
Signed the log and Sainted the cache at 1007 hours
Didn't like the thought od the descent so I found a safer and easier way out
Thanks for the challenge and the find
Cheers
OldSaint
After getting the final coordinates at WP2 we returned to the van to use the geochecker and after getting the okay returned to what looked like the best spot to head up.
Struggled with a GPS that wouldn't settle but found a spot that fit the clue perfectly - but I guess it wasn't GZ as there was no cache there.
I will attempt this one again some time but I'll wait to see if it is found again first.
Thanks for the challenge, even if it was unsuccessful.
TFTC Tassie Trekkers. Great idea for a multi
The gpsr was pointing further along the trail and up...which seemed consistent with rating.
Went past the ruins...up the steps...climbing...still 80m uphill through the scrub.
Had Murder(4paws) with me....pulling me onward and up.
Finally came out onto an open ridge top...beauty...this should be easy. Spied one spot consistent with hint but no cache. Searched ever widening circles but nothing matching the hint now.
Ok...something clearly wrong.
Luckily had phone reception/internet so checked coords with checker....wrong!.. ...arrrrgh what the heck.
Tied Murder up and went back over info...only one logical mistake...back to checker...bingo...correct...but now back 150m east to gz.
Going was easy and open under the powerlines...then the gps pointed 80m downhill.
Ok...back towards the track...now getting steeper...Murder pulling me downhill now....omg...getting dangerous close to gz...large boulders...cliffs...went too far down, so had to scramble back up to within 8m of gz.
Can't take Murder there...or he'll pull us both over the edge.
Tied him up and scrambled across to gz where the cache hide was spotted.
Back to Murder and took a much better grade back onto the track.
Well....Murder is officially kelpie cross with a Himalayan Mt goat..
The cache description says terrain 3.5...but reckon it was 7 the way we went.
What an adventure....anyone who says geocaching is tame etc better try this cache....just make sure you have Mt goat heritage..
Many thanks Tassie Trekkers for providing a caching experience I wont forget for awhile...thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Murder gives his 4 paws up and a waggy tail..me..5 thumbs up.
Many thanks...cheers ST.
Mrs Y'stassie then checked the area for easiest access and she was off. After first investigating an area below GZ she continued up until she spotted a similar object. Her GPS was in her pocket and when she got it out she was 1m from the published coordinates. A quick look around and an area that warranted further inspection was identified. Sure enough there was the cache container. Container and contents were in good condition. After replacing the container she enjoyed the view before starting her way down. Here the excitement started. In one spot she ended up in a controlled slide for about 10m, those She-oak needles are very slippery. As a result she found her GPS was no-longer in her pocket so back up she went. She located the GPS under a pile of needles and cones not far from where the slide started. Back to the track without further incidents or so she thought. Later in the trip she noticed her sunglasses were no-longer with her and remembered that they were also in a pocket. She also found she had a tear in her trousers just below her back pocket must have been snared on a sharp rock or piece of a branch.
Thanks for this neat little multi and the associated excitement Tassie Trekkers. If anyone finds a pair of black Cancer Council sunglasses when looking for this cache they belong to Mrs Y'tassie who can now add sunglasses to the list of items she has lost while caching.
I must have taken the hard way to this cache cause it was more like a Terrain 5 climbing up there, but the view was well worth the climb and I was rewarded with the FTF @ 1:32pm. Thank you very much for this multi was much enjoyed.
