Description

Cairns Holiday Geocache #1

The family took a week holiday in Cairns over the 2019 / 2020 end of year and there seemed to be a few Geocaching Australia geocaches around, so we decided to add two the collection that may entice some local geocaches out to find them or create a small diversion for those who do play at Geocaching Australia to stop past when they are also on holidays.

The geocache you seeks is at the end of a turnoff on Buchan Street / Colonel Cummings Drive (which was just up the street from where we were staying). Avoid attempting this from Coaral Coast Drive as there is a forest barrier and fence that you can't get past (much too exclusive down there). There is a great hint and spoiler photo just in case over time the geocache goes missing you at least know you were looking in the right place.

The geocache itself is a small brown 200ml sistema container which hopefully, the way it is hidden, will avoid getting too waterlogged. Watch out for toads that are likley to try and live next to the geocache.

I went on a week long trip to Cairns to escape the Canberra region and do a little diving and some exploration with caching to keep me busy. The warm weather was refreshing after the Canberra winter. As usual after flying up there was lots of walking but it was great to be out. Day 4. After a few days Diving I had two days to spend before my next trip. I hired a car and went on a bit of a trip after some early caching around Cairns and the Northern beaches. First stop was Kuranda, then Mareeba, Mt Molloy and down to Pt Douglas for dinner.

I did come in from the wrong side at first, but after reading the instructions I came around the other way and found myself quickly at the cache which was in good condition.

Thanks for the cache caughtatwork

First to log online... however not the first names in the book!

There is a story behind this find.... I have been quiet inactive with both GC & even more so GCA the past few year having a kid. And the local FB page posted a photo of a random gnome. So I looked up GCA and spied where the cache was, impressed the gnome game was back! So today made the horn trek to,go retrieve gnome, spotted writing on the bottom and the decided to go grab this cache. Then I read the description of the other supposed cache... it’s not a gnome cache! So in fact I didn’t find a diff cache first, but stole a gnome...... coincidentally, the gnome is an insta travel gnome thing going on

But in sort, because EOFY that adventure, I made the effort to grab this.... OOPs!

Good sunsets from the top view!
