Description

Placed on the Barry Jarvis Link Road which now leads into Bridport from the west.....!

This cache has been placed on the new Bridport Western Access Road, which is named Barry Jarvis Link Road, in honour of the late Dorset mayor Barry Jarvis.

Cr Jarvis died in 2015, after a single-vehicle car accident police believe was caused by a medical incident.

His death was a shock to the Dorset community, of which Cr Jarvis was mayor of at the time, elected with more than 50 per cent of the primary vote.

He was also the president of the Local Government Association of Tasmania.

Cr Jarvis was a strong advocate against the Tasmanian Forestry Agreement, and was praised as a passionate believer in, and supporter of, the North-East by figures in all three levels of government.

Tributes through The Examiner called him "approachable, loyal and always good for a chuckle", "a tireless advocate for regional Tasmania", and "a champion bloke - forthright, honest, articulate and most of all caring".

Dorset Council general manager Tim Watson said Cr Jarvis was a giant in the recent history of Dorset.

The 2.6-kilometre Barry Jarvis Link Road was opened in April 2019, providing a way for freight vehicles to bypass the town of Bridport by connecting Sandy Points and Bridport roads.

On the way home to the north west after a couple of very pleasant days in Bridport. This back road into the town is a real boon. Managed to pull up with the camper trailer in tow, and the missus crossed over to the other side to pick up the cache in a well known hidey hole. Thanks for a very convenient drive-by LuckyL10N. Wow! 82 weeks since last found. But all good here and the cache was in good condition - as it should be considering its hiding place!
This road wasn't on our Garmin that we use to get us close to GZ. According to it we were heading across paddocks. I guess it's time to update our maps as I'm sure this road has been here for a few years now. Luckily a bit of local knowledge helped. Thanks LuckyL10N.

Hi LuckyL10n
An early start to the day; started with a slow drive over icey Huon Highway
Met up with Budge and then onto Launceston
Trying to earn shots for the Battleships Game was the main objective for the day
4 GC caches were found along with 16 GCA caches
In so doing, I expended 1450 calories while taking 4837 steps to cover a distance of 3.9km on foot
This one was Sainted at 1334 hours
Thanks to Budge for a great day
Thanks for a most enjoyable cache
Cheers OldSaint

A Trip with Oldsaint was on the cards for today, and the target was GCA caches for shots on the battleship board. A second objective was to get Oldsaint to the next dragonzone level, which happened early in the day. Thank you for the caches to that helped make the day a success.

A new road joins on the bridge, so my GPS was very confused.

Logged this one on my way back from Waterhouse today. Easy parking on the opposite side of the road and a quick dash across the road gave me the goods. Road was fairly quiet at around 4pm today. Only a couple of passing cars. TFTC Clan Cerberus

I only discovered this road a week ago but then was not aware of this cache. As I was in the area again I made a quick stop, find and was on my way again.

We were doing a little clean up of unfound caches around this area before heading back towards Launceston.

This was a quick stop and grab as we headed into Bridport on this new road. The container and contents were in very good order.

Thanks for this cache LuckyL10n. We hadn't travelled on this road before so enjoyed seeing the area.

After getting a phone call for work i had to go to Bridport today, i noticed this one hadn't been found yet so i thought id grab it on the way past with hopes the FTF was still up for grabs. i have driven past the road since it has been finished but hadn't yet taken it so today it was the day. i pulled up at ground zero and the hiding place was pretty obvious as per the hint, to my surprise there had been no logs yet so i claimed the FTF @ 12:47pm. once the log was signed i turned to look at those funny looking green guide posts they looked like they had some sort of sensor on them, then it was on my way to Bridport.
