Description
Railton is a town situated 20 km inland from Devonport on the north-west coast of Tasmania, Australia's island state. In the 2016 census, Railton had a population of 997. It was first known as Redwater Creek and became known as Railton after the construction of a tramway line in the 1860s.
Railton was first surveyed in 1853 and a railway line through the town from Deloraine to Latrobe was completed in 1885. Early settlers who were mainly farmers and timber workers lived in slab huts. The wide main street was built to make life easier for the bullock teams making their way to the railway station. By the 1900s Railton had a flourishing timber trade with 2 sawmills.
Railton has several topiaries in various locations around the town. Visit the "Town of Topiary" website for information on how to find them.
Railton promotes itself as the "Town of Topiary".
Railton is home to a Cement Australia plant which began operations in 1923. It was previously known as Goliath Cement.

Logs
again goose did all the work on this one and was just to fast for me (don't say that often)
Thanks a wonderful unexpected Sunday morning caching.
Thanks DEZ055
Started the day at 6am, although Oldsaint had driven from Huonville by then. The drive north was interesting, and even though Symons Plains had a race day on, nobody was there at 8am
Proceeded directly to our main target, the Sail Boat Geoart, and completed about 9 before the heavy shower set in, so we decided we could drive to the last during the shower and work our way back. At the last we we greeted by a large amount of snow on the sides of the road, and throughout the tree. We occasionally got "snow balled" from trees above as we were caching. Great day out.
According to the rules of Blitz
Blitz is a dragonZone encounter where you find as many unique valid dragonZone geocaches as you can during a set period of time in an attempt to earn a reward.
Rewards are in the form of dragonZone points but are only awarded if the entire team of geocaches who are playing dragonZone combine to exceed the total number of finds required.
If the entire team of geocachers who are playing dragonZone reach or exceed the total number of finds required then at the end of the game you will receive a number of dZ points based on your percentage contribution of unique finds.
For example:
Make 1% of the total finds, receive 1% of the total rewards points.
Make 5% of the total finds, receive 5% of the total rewards points.
Make 10% of the total finds, receive 10% of the total rewards points.
dZPoints will be rounded up to the nearest whole number.
The more unique geocaches you find the more you are rewarded.
Geocaches you find during the game must have been hidden and published prior to the game announcement.
Thanks dez055
A quick find on the way back to Devonport
Sainted at 1610 hours
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint
Please Place it back where it is hiding so that the log doesnt get wet in future.
Happy Caching.
Cache was found half hanging off the guard rail, and the log was wet will dry out in place back in due time.
None the less i will stop by tonight and check it out.
Log sheet wet...barely etched my name on the log. Log needs to be inside a bag of some sorts.
Tftc DEZ055...cheers ST.
This was the first we looked for and was a quick find. It was not the hide type we were expecting here and although in good condition it felt like the log sheet had been damp at some stage.
Mrs Beetle, like Mrs 2ystassies has ties to Railton too with her father being born and raised in the area and Railton Primary School being her first teaching appointment way back then.
Thanks.
When she was young, 60+ years ago her grandfather was the hydro engineer based at the Railton sub station. Her grandparents lived in the house closest to the substation building. Both buildings have been removed and the substation building replaced with a modern version.
It was very quiet here this morning. Even the usual rumble from the cement works was not audible. Good coordinates enabled her to make a quick find of a different style hide. The log sheet was blank giving us a {FTF} at 7:00.
Thanks for this cache DEZ055. Always enjoy a driveby with plenty of space to pull off the road. Enjoyed the little trip down memory lane.
