Description

Inspired by the self isolation imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, here is a cache you can find from home.

Video conferencing has seen a surge in popularity as people work from home, learn from home, connect with family and friends. Geocachers have been quick to jump on board and organise online meetups using platforms such as Zoom. To log this cache, you must include a screenshot of yourself participating in an online video conference. To be valid, the picture must include at least your headshot with your caching name as it appears on screen during the conference.

Cache Update
On 8 April, I extended the logging limits to now allow 3 separate logs of this cache. This is to reflect the growing use of video conferencing by all, and the geocaching community in particular.

Tip: Displaying Photos In Your Log
Geocaching Australia logs present a little differently to those you may be used to. The default is for you to need to view any uploaded photos by clicking the camera icon at the top right of each log entry. The following steps will enable your photos to be displayed directly in your log:

  1. Create your log and upload any images with it
  2. In your posted entry, click on the far right camera icon (view gallery)
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page to see your thumbnail images and click on one to open a pop up image with the title and (click for details) underneath
  4. Follow the click for details link
  5. You now have 5 choices of code for embedding the image
  6. Copy the code for the second option: Cache/Web pages (HTML thumbnail with link) and return all the way back to the cache page
  7. Paste the code into your log by choosing the pencil icon (edit log)

We all attended too many virtual meetings during the lockdowns and Dad still attends the occasional meeting now. Between school, work and scouts we were chewing through the internet data.

This is a fabulous way to keep in touch with friends and family, if you can remember how to connect. I have met up with local geocachers and I even logged into one in Victoria. Beside actually getting in, I also have problems with taking a screen shot, only works sometimes and where we live the internet is not very reliable. Anyway I did manage to get one screen shot once with friends during a puzzle solving session. Thanks for this challenge Mister Doctor. Now to find and add the screen shot. Virtual Millicent Mega Event was my first, sadly I didn't know anyone but thought I'd give it a try, was great to put some faces to names I've seen in logs.
Joined my second meeting later in the day in my home state of WA - GA14604 Zoom WA Catchup #3 - where I saw a couple of faces from the earlier event

My second log after attending the Virtual Millicent Mega this evening.
My home internet kept dropping out, so ended up hot spotting off my phone, but then it froze too.
Good to see familiar faces and catch up. We seem to be getting better at managing the conversations as more of these events are put on Smile

I have been chatting with other geocachers for the past two weeks. This image is a few of the attendants of GA14551 "+Wife's Party". I was at my holiday house with my family and was hotspotting off my son's phone. I am learning a lot about this technology very quickly.

Thank you Clan Cerberus Mister Doctor Clan Cerberus for another cache for us to log while we are STAYING SAFE and STAYING AT HOME.

On April 8 I extended the logging limits to three separate logs of this cache. This is to reflect the growing use of video conferencing by everyone, and the geocaching community in particular. I have changed the cache name from "I Attended an Online Video Conference @ Home" to "I Attended Online Video Conference(s) @ Home".

On the first of April, myself and a lot of other Geocachers met up on 'Zoom' for a Online Video Conference to catch up about how we are coping with everything. I said my bit and heard from most people. I needed to leave early because I had another Zoom meeting to attend. Picture attached, location: 2nd row and 2nd the Right. TFTLC

On 30 March, I caught up with a number of cachers in WA via Zoom Cool

05-Apr-20
I changed the name of this cache from "I Attended an Online Event" to "I Attended an Online Video Conference" to clear up any ambiguity about the type of event I was thinking about. Sorry for the confusion and happy conferencing!

We attended four on the one day on 28/3/2020 all for the Geocaching Australia Anniversary.
GA14526 GCA Anniversary Event - Corona Version
GA14491 G.A. Birthday event
GA14517 28th March celebrations
GA14536 Anniversary Event

The photo taken for two of them was a rare occurrence with all three members of Shifter Brains caching together, it is usually only two now that Miss SHifter is much older than when we started 15 years ago.

One that was just published today, GA14576 - End of Daylight Savings 2020. The description reads:

** You can log an attendance at any time during the day of Saturday 4th April, and attach a "happy memory" of Summer **

Event: Saturday 4th April **EVENT IS A VIRTUAL EVENT & NOT AT THE POSTED COORDINATES** We are encouraged to stay at home, and the only events are to be Virtual events, so our excuse for an event is to say "goodbye" to Daylight Savings. It has been a difficult few months with Bushfires and floods, and now the Coronavirus Pandemic, but hopefully in the past 6 months of Daylight Savings there were a few good memories!

A neat idea by the CO - Thomo31. ClappingClapping

Thanks to Mister Doctor for this one. Very HappyVery Happy

GCA 2,833. Another neat Locationless to find while sitting at home.

I attended via Zoom GA14474 2020 Twenty Year Anniversary Event Zoom Meeting on 28 March 2020. I attended twice actually, firstly in a car as I was being driven home when the event first started, then at home when I got home - cool ! We then followed up with anther Zoom Event by No_Tomorrow that evening as well. Its quite easy and a fun way to keep in contact during these trying times.

Don't forget you can add your photo to your log. See the instructions above.
