Description

This is a webcam geocache in honour of all the past founders, contributors, admins, developers, users, benefactors and supporters of GCA, which has now become a strong, vibrant Australian Geocaching community

The Wrest Point Casino first opened in Hobart in 1973 and was Australia's first legal casino. It is now a recognised Tasmanian landmark and includes a revolving restaurant on the top level offering panoramic views of the city. The casino also has a webcam on the top that you can control remotely via the internet here. To activate the camera, follow the link to the webcam and when the window opens, click on the button in the lower right corner.

To log this cache you need to post a picture of yourself holding a GPSr and mark your coordinates at that site to be included in your log. You will most likely need assistance to pan and zoom to your position in order to capture your image. You don't need to be in the carpark like Mr red tag at the posted coordinates, in fact you can be anywhere that the camera can capture an image (please don't do anything dangerous!!). The first person to post an image of themselves ON A BOAT on the river (not moored/anchored) will receive a geocoin as a prize! Other novel locations will also be rewarded!

Hi red tag
Have had this cache on the bucket list for such a long time.
I'd tried to do it on my phone but could not get any joy.
Then tried on the laptop at home to look at the mechanism but that wouldn't do it either.
Today, Budge was kind enough to take the photo while I was at the appropriate section of Wrest Point. Thanks Budge!
Sainted the cache at 1159hrs.
Went in and had a winning flutter - so thank you!!
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.

I have been helping out with the parking for a South East Rally that starts on the top deck of the Wrest Point car park for many years now. For several years now I have been trying to access the web cam while doing the parking but with the WI-FI now been secured and not been able to access the web cam from a phone I had to ring home.
After 35min talking Mrs Dangles through EVERY step of the computer I was happy she had the photos I needed.

I bought a mobile wifi broadband thingy last monrth so that i could have internet access easily when I took Mum to Vic, and I also thought I'd finally be able to do the webcam caches. So I drove down to Wrest Point, and spent quite a while attempting to master the whole thing. Things kept happening and I'd have to start over. Finally the rain got worse and I got sick of trying to get out of the car at the last moment, (with my bulky laptop!). Too many times it got mucked up at that point, so I settled for a picture of my car (and I'm in it). My little red jazz is clearly visible (despite the rain) sitting on its lonesome in the carpark. Even though in the scheme of things it's probably not a very good pic as I'm not visible (!!!) it's my first attempt, and I'm quite pleased to be able to log it! Thanks red tag, another new accomplishment!

I had the opportunity to bag this cache during the lunch break at the AADES 2011 conference (that Australian Association Distance Education Schools if you're wondering). I was pleased to discover that Wrest Point's guest wifi worked in the carpark! Laughing Thanks for the cache!

PS: I just noticed the date this cache was listed... Happy second birthday Wrest Point Webcam!!!

Another happy snap in the rain. At lease you can zoom in on this camera.

Ok, so I came up with nothing more orginal than sitting in my car with a laptop and my arm out the window...

After a bit of walking around I eventually found the right spot to stand. TFTC

Before leaving home we had practised controlling the web cam and had decided on a location. However, as all those involved in using IT, the question remained - will it all work at the critical time. Well, pleased to report than all went very well and the photo has been added to the gallery. One of us is in the red wagon controlling the IT, the other outside as a geocacher specimen with the GPS. Not the greatest image - me feeling like a complete goose/stalker standing near the kids playground with GPS in one hand, and stuffed toy fox in the other - long story...

Great idea for a cache, surprisingly, I took nothing and left nothing! TFTWC (and thanks to Schnee for operating the camera!).

Tried to do this on the way home from the bowling event thingy. Couldn't get the camera to load from home PC, nor from Iphone. Sad Maybe it was offline? Will have to try again later

Well done Swampy for FTF, and also to March Brown for what must have been a very challenging log! We will get the promised geocoin to you soon. We also await the next unique log - could it be someone belting out a tune while strumming the guitar, perhaps fancy dress or, dare i mention it, some poor geocacher being escorted away by the MIB!? All such logs would be deserving of an award (geocoin).

Had to have a go at this from the water.
So this morning headed out with the boat, gps and laptop to park in front of the casino and try to get a picture.
This is a bit harder than you would think as the boat keeps moving and it is hard to keep it in the picture with a reasonable zoom level.
Well this is the best I could do. I am in the bow holding up my gps and operating the computer at the same time.
Lots of fun Smile
Thanks red tag

Saw this pop up last night and wondered about being first.
Looks like I am. *FTF* to me.
It seems you would get a better picture if you are a LOT closer to the tower.
Thanks red tag for MY first webcam cache.
