Description

A 20 minute hill climb for some magnificent rugged coastal views.

Rocky Cape National Park is tiny and largely overlooked, especially this western end. However, it is no less beautiful than Sister's Beach, and in my opinion even more dramatic. The walking tracks range from 10 mins to several hours, depending on how long you want to walk for. The lighthouse and ancient aboriginal shelter caves are also well worth a visit.

Being a National Park, a parks pass is technically required; also, camping and pets are not permitted. There is camping with facilities at Rocky Cape township and Crayfish Creek, and camping at Peggs Beach Conservation Area. Within the park there is a picnic area and toilets, but bring your own drinking water (and plenty of it if you're going on any of the longer walks).

It is also a nice area for boating, fishing and swimming.

This lovely (mostly) sunny winters day found us doing the loop walk from Rocky Cape via the inland track to Anniversary Bay and then back via the coastal route. It was a bushwalking club walk but they all know about geocaching. We all scooted up this short side track to the high point to take in the excellent views. The cache was quickly found and is in excellent condition. Great cache location.

Plan was to go for this one today, but the smoke/haze was a bit thick, so decided against it. Will be back again one day I'm sure...

Thanks anyway...

Hi hookline
Very Happy What a great cache.
The walk is relatively quick, not as hard as it looked from the car park and exhilarating. It was made easier today as there was no scrub to contend with due to a Parks and Wildlife burn off in recent times.
Found the cache very quickly as I saw it as I was proceeding to ground zero. The views here are tremendous!!!
Just a little windy at the top today.
Loved the whole experience
TFTC and cheers

The Spreytons22 found this little fella after a short search and a long walk up a steep hill! Actually it was more the issue of the extreme wind today, and the walk down being a bit "scrambly".
A great spot, TFTC

Had just commented to geohubby that this was a nice gentle steady incline when the track to the top suddenly appeared. Had to put in a bit more effort for the last 100 metres or so but as always it was definitely worth the extra effort. Mr Cockroach was still at his post guarding the cache. No wonder he likes living by the cache, with views like these who wouldn't want to live there. TFTC Very HappyVery HappyVery Happy

Mr T & Mr Whitewebbs tackled 8 caches in the Rocky Cape area and this was one of them. The day started off fine and the tracks varied in terrain, the scenery was magnificent and ever changing and well worth the effort. By the time they reached the end it started to rain and they were pleased to be picked up by the other halves who had been busy caching at lower levels. TFTC

Mr W and Mr Tassie Trekkers set this day aside on our holiday to the North West to visit all the caches and trig points in the area. Mrs W and Mrs T did caches at lower levels around the area. Mr W commented the whole Rocky Cape area was fantastic and well worth the effort to visit.

Found it while walking in the area.

Continued on the track from Choir of rocks with the track to my self. An easy walk with a bit of up hill to gz and a cool wind blowing. Found the cache after a bit of a search as my gps had it about 3m away. Took in the views and left nothing. Thanks

Our second big climb for today but we got there. Yes, the views were magnificant even on a day with 6/8ths cloud. Took a little while near GZ to locate the cache and when we did, the guardian cockroach had to be evicted. Rocky Cape certainly has a unique personality - rugged grandeur comes to mind. TFTC

'shaz' had knee soreness so 'col' ran up and ran back down the hill. The last pinch to the top slowed me to walking pace on the way up. Was blowing a gale on top today but the views are magnificent up here with the crystal blue waters around the headlands and all for a short uphill 20 minute walk.

This was just lovely! A great short walk. Dropped Mum at her friends along the road and zipped back (and up) to grab this find. Really enjoyed the walk up, and the views are fantastic. Thanks hookline, a top cache. And back to the friends for lunch!!!

Continued on from both Tinkers LO and Choir of Rocks....track graded really well though the last steep section was slowing me down. Glorious views again...better than Tinkers as you get to see all the coastline. I'm glad I combined all 3 caches...really excellent walk...speccy scenery. Many thanks again Hookline...another ripper...Cheers.

I was up at the crack of dawn (which reminds me I must ring the Hotel in Wynyard and pay for my room which they left the door unlocked of .... I arrived after reception had closed and left before it opened on the next day) :O
anyways ....the legs were fairly stiff after climbing Mt Roland the day before so the walk up to the top of Rocky Cape got them working again.
It was a great place to just sit and soak up the rising sun and the incredible views.
I took the Geocoin and popped it into my pocket and headed off to Cathedral Rocks. When I returned to the car a few hours later I felt in my pants pocket and OH NO it was empty. So I thought the most likely place it would have slipped out was at the summit when I mucked around taking pics so off I went back up AGAIN. Looked and looked and no luck so I walked back to the car feeling terrible for the owner.
later in the day....
the weather was cooling off so I put my jacket back on and what do ya know I had put the coin in the pocket of my jacket not my pants pocket.
YAY !!! sheesh I am blobde sometimes Smile
Tremendous cache Hookline.
Thanks very much

Might not have been first to find by a short margin but first to log. Quite a steep little walk to this one. Had a son racing at Sisters Creek so was pretty excited to see 2 new caches had gone in down here. Watched some racing then headed off only to find that RedTag had already been here. Drat!!

Left the Master of Cache geocoin, but as it's a GCA cache, I've logged it into GC1KZ5X The Rise and Fall of Paul Atreides.
