Description

A brand new walking track and viewing platform to the Philosopher Falls. The path is well made, flat and easy walking apart from a long flight of steps at the end down to the platform. It is a pleasant, 40min return walk through the rainforest. The view of the falls is not as spectacular as that from the bottom but will suit people looking for an easier experience.

Note: This track has not yet been 'officially' opened; there is a boom gate barring the way to the carpark, but the track is completed and perfectly suitable for walking on. However, anyone walking here is advised to steer clear of any construction work or trucks should they encounter any.

Anyone up for a more adventuresome and rewarding experience, please consider my other cache 'The Philosophy of Caching #1' GA1394.

Came down to grab the two Philosophers falls caches on GC and found this one tucked away on the GPS. It's always a bit exciting to find one of the originals. Had a good read through the Philosophy of caching cards while we were here. Thanks for making my day! Very Happy

This had me confused. I hadn't checked GCA, just GC and was looking for the GC cache here. Two for one search Smile TFTC.

This was a beautiful walk through lush green rainforest to a very pretty waterfall. There were a couple of other cars parked in the parking area but we still felt like we had the place to ourselves. On our return we had lunch by the car and a few cars turned up but left again after reading the sign telling them they had to walk to the falls! As we were leaving a minibus full of tourists turned up - we timed it very well!
The cache was a nice and easy find and we enjoyed reading through the quotes. TFTC Hookline!

We were on our way back to Waratah for New Years Eve and decided to stop off for a trip to the falls, as we had never visited them. This was a very impressive track/lookout, but we would have liked to have time to look for the original cache. Unfortunately, that will have to be another time. TFTC

Our first ever GCA cache we found. We usually only use Geocaching official site (almost 2000 finds) but recently i have been fishing around in GCA. For us its a perfect alternative if there are no other caches in the area. I was mumbling that it was disappointing there was no cache here and then i thought to check GCA. I am not really uop to speed on how to use it but somehow , with limited reception, we managed to find this one right where we stopped to check after seeing it was at 38m. We were almost as excited as when we first started caching. Great walk out here, i counted 211 steps.

After parking our car (only one other in the car park at the time) we headed in along the excellent track through the dim greenery of the forest. Its a very magical and atmospheric walk on a day like today - windy, cloudy, cold with a bit of light rain occasionally. We traipsed along very very slowly as there were a couple of fungal photographers in the party and there was a vast array of fungus (toadstools in the vernacular) to behold and photograph. Still we eventually made it to the falls which were roaring quite well due to some recent rains. Cache was found without much ado - thanks to the excellent hint. Cache is in good condition. Great location.

We found this on the Toolbox and Swampy 3 day West Coast trip.
We spent around 30 minutes searching for this cache and the other close by. We found this one but not the other.
Lovely falls and I wish I had my bathers today as it was so hot out on the sun.
Thanks for the cache hookline!

There's a bit of a story here. With the possibility (OK slim) of finding 3 caches at the end of the walk, the mention of that flight of steps at the end of it could not deter us. A wonderful walk it was too through magnificent rainforest. Once those steps were conquered the hunt took us a while due to the expected dodgy GPS readings giving very rubbery figures. The hint (when checked) proved moot as we were now "down there" & had stupidly neglected to count. In fact, when we found the container we thought it was "the other one" - GC5GJ9H, Philosopher Reward, as that was the one we were first searching for & the two GZ coordinates are only 22m apart. Confirmation on which one was in our hands came from the name on the logbook & Hookline's trademark "words of wisdom" cards.
Here's the rub: the previous 9 finders of GC5GJ9H, all the way back to FelixII's log of both in Nov 2015 have thought the same & happily signed this logbook but claimed a find on the GC cache! Bound to happen I guess, having two caches so close together and in an area with poor GPS readings - though being the earlier placement we reckon this one has first dibs. So, the lure of 3 finds became for us 1 find plus a DNF. Still a great walk though. We've logged a NM for the other one but this one was in pretty good nick.

Travelling around Australia and spending a few months in Tasmania.

Our last day in Waratah so we headed out to those caches that we had yet to find on our last few days here. Nice quiet town that we were pleased to have visited. Cool

Mr Felix did the walk to Philosopher falls and managed to find this cache but he wasnt game to attemp #1.

Easy find, lovely falls although frustratingly hidden by the trees!
We were actually looking to get to the bottom but didn't figure out that the way to TPoC#1 was from the higher carpark until we got back to the car.

Doing a Good Friday caching run on a wet day, but surprisingly didn't get rained on during the walk in to this cache. Found easily with the aid of an excellent hint. Plenty of water going over the falls today, photo attached. TFTC

Would have loved to try for this one.......got most of the way along the well formed track but by the time we seemed to be about half way along the length of the water race we were ankle deep in mud. Much of the earlier part of the race had great boardwalks (metalwalks??) along it but other parts were getting a little boggy Crying or Very sad Getting quite late in the day too so even darker than normal in the forest so to be prudent we thought we'd better head back to the car. Once again hookline...thanks for bringing us here Razz

Found with Tassie Trekkers while holidaying on the west coast. Nice walk into falls with the best set of stairs down to a waterfall I have ever seen. Nicely spaced. Found cache with aid of hint from past logs, otherwise would still be there as GPS all over the place. TFTC Clapping Took magnet, left owl.

Found on our West Coast Wilderness holiday with whitewebbs. A very pleasant walk on a well maintained track. Found cache thanks to 2y'stassies hint. TFTC

Great walk on a some what miserable day. Plenty of persistent rain but all the storms yesterday had the falls flowing well today. It was way too wet and slippery to do the old track today and we have the Magnet mine to fossick around in yet and only so much daylight

Thanks for the great cache location.

We set off on an easy forest walk on a well made track, crossed the river on a newly built footbridge, walked alongside or in a former water race and finally descended down rather steep but high quality stairs to a viewing platform. Along the way we quickly found the cache at 156. There were great views of Philosopher Falls from the platform. We were somewhat amazed that GA1394 "The Philosophy of Caching #1" was less than 50m away (according to our GPS) but the terrain inbetween screamed that a direct route was not possible without dire consequences. The pleasant walk to this cache and views of the falls encouraged us to tackle the other cache - what a contrast in ease of access - see our log for GA1394. We really enjoyed both caching experiences, but #1 is "special". Thanks hookline for two quality caches.

beautiful walk in this area and was glad to do it in the early morning before the heat of the day. walked as far as i was able and dave dad did the hard slog to find the cache. gps was very unreliable under the canopy so were unable to get philosophy #1 today. But we will return soon

Cool and on and off drizzly day, but when walking in to this (on dusk) it was quite bearable. Had absolutely no GPS readings, so needed that clue. T wolf, L hooksafe, SL. TFTC

Nice to get something a bit easier, nice flat track, shame about the steps, easy find, thanks for the cache

After the other cache this one was a breeze. Flat, nothing to crawl under and over, no swearing and cursing, no sweat, etc etc!! Mind you the last bit was a bit of a challenge at the end of a day caching in this area. Saw those man made obstacles and thought 'Oh no!' But a very clever clue made it a quick and easy find. Thanks.

Thankfully tackled this cache first...and just as well. The track builders have done a great job with the stairway but would have thought the viewing platform could have been positioned much better. Not as big a flow on this visit but still pretty darn good and well worth the visit. GPSr was all over the shop...as such had two goes at finding the cache....but found easily enough...wish the same could be said for its nearby partner. Where the track crosses over the river the path then follows the old water race...to the old Magnet mine I expect. Thoroughly enjoyed the walk to the easy option...but alas my joy was short lived. Many thanks for a top cache Hookline...Cheers.
