Description

The Dragon's Cave

The Dragon's Cave

This is a regular cache containing Spike The Dragon. Please do not remove him from the cache as he is guarding his cave. This is a relatively easy find with a good view of Congewai valley from the lookout. On a clear day you can see out to Cessnock to the North East.

The only road access is from Hayes road from Millfield, about 10km southwest of Cessnock. Hayes road is 2WD and maybe 5km long. Near the end of Hayes road is an interesting private winery.

Drive up Hayes road towards Corrabare then head south along the ridgetop on Trig / Cabans road (very roughly 12km), turn left onto Langans road. These roads may be travelled in 2WD vehicles with good clearance when they are dry, otherwise 4WD would be highly recommended. Ignore all the interesting side roads, take the left option at all the forks. Follow Langans road for just under a kilometre (you cross latitude S33° about here) and you will reach Flat Rock Lookout where you can park off the road. Watch the Geokids as there is a severe drop and the fence has rusted away.

There are kangaroos, goannas and lyrebirds aplenty.

Happy Geocaching!

made the my way up here on a beautiful sunny Sunday morning, finding the cache a bit away from the coordinates. log was wet but singable, and Team 737, who I ran into up here (not once, but twice) placed a double bagged fresh log in the cache. TFTC

We hid a GC cache 20 odd metres from this one 5 years ago, we didn't even know this was here then, today we came back to maintain our cache, and thought we'd get a little unloved too, only to meet up with Banj who was just coming back from logging it himself! Smile
Its all pretty wet inside, we could sign it. We've donated a dry logbook and ziplock, and hope the next visitors aren't so long away.....

The cache seems to have been found by accident by a finder looking for a cache we hid a mere 30m or so away!

We found this cache by accident while looking for a FTF on a nearby cache! We stumbled across this interesting spot and spotted the container unaware of GCA caches at the time. We signed the log and placed in in a new zip bag to help keep it dry. We were so surprised to find this cache which had been unfound for 4 and a half years! I took note of the geocode to do a little search later at home discovering this page. A great spot for a cache, one of our most memorable finds of all time due to the accidental find and the number of years unfound. TFTC

Headed up here after driving through the valley below. What a great spot with beautiful views and a great cache as well.

Thanks.

swmpgrl and I decided we are going to do the Great North Walk in Sections. This section was handy to home so off we went. I noticed that there was a cache on route so how could we resist.
This is a great spot and well worth the walk or the drive. The views nearby are great.
