Description
The Kulin Wetlands offer a nice stroll and an opportunity to find a cache.
The Maribyrnong River valley has been home for the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation for up to 40,000 years. Human remains dated at least 15,000 years old have been found along the river, with much older signs of human habitation also present.
This site was oroginally used by the Kulin people, the Aboriginal people in the Melbourne region.
Brimbank Park, a few kilometres downstream of Keilor in the Maribyrnong River valley, has within its boundaries several archaeological sites, including quarries where stone for stone tools was mined, burial sites, and scatters of stone tools. Some of these sites are approximately 17,000 years old.
As a result of the discovery of the burial site in 1965, the State Government acquired the site, which is now known as Kulin Wetlands.
There are a number of ways to approach this cache with the easies being to park in Brimbank Park and stroll down and across the ford, taking either the bridge approach or the ford approach to the wetlands. Either the ford or bridge approach are approrixmately equidistant from the cache location, so why not take one way there and continue on and take the other way back.
Brimbank Park is open daily from 8:30am to 8:00pm during daylight savings periods and 8:30am to 5:00pm other times.
If you attempt to bush bash your way in you will run across creeks, streams and billabongs that, depending on recent rains, will hamper your aproach. Stay on the track until you get within 20m of the cache.
The best approach to GZ is to stay on the formed tracks and only leave the track when you come to the ford and the concrete of the ford spillway gives way to the bitumen path. From here your destination is only some 20m into the trees.
The area at GZ is quite heavily tree covered and even though my GPS took me to GZ three time in succession, depending on your stallite constellation on any given day this cache might be a bit tough to locate. As such the hint is quite detailed and you should be able to locate the cache with this information even if your GPS is leading you astray.
The cache you seek is an ammo can with a 2 litre sistema contaner inside. I hope you enjoy your stroll through the wetlands.

The owner can... who am I kidding... the owner knows what to do to get it back online
Nice cache,
Thanks.
I parked to the left and proceeded down towards the river crossing.
Oh dear the water was fairly high so without knowing the crossing that well I was to abandon the 'swim'.
Easy fixed after I left the park I was in the car and driving around the other side.
PArked high up on the valley crossing and walked down to GZ.
A great locale and a fairly easy find.
The only issue I had was the stinger that brushed my hand but there is not many around.
The brown water was up quite high! It was running real fast too! Couldn't get too near the cache at all
Another time! Thanks anyways caughtatwork.
TFTC C@W. A top location in Brimbank Park
Finding the cache wasn't hard. The GPS took me about 3m away to a clearing and I stood there and turned around until I spotted a likely hide.
Took bubbles, left slinky.
Nice stroll from "Brimbank Park - Old Man Gum" cache. Co-ords pointed me right at gz. I was surprised to see the area had been under water recently, but he cache was dry. TNLNSL Thanks caught@work!
Not a soul in sight and just a lovely area so green in the Melbourne autumn. Approaching the hide with some trepidation as there is every indication that the area had been submerged in the recent downpour but the magnificent container combination had saved the day and the contents were bone dry.

Puffed and panted my way back up the hill with the dog all excited picking up on the rabbits scents in the area.
Our thanks to caughtatwork for yet another well stocked ammo can in an area not previously visited.
Cheers

It was late afternoon after work and I really enjoyed the stroll.
Like those before me I walked the track until the 25m mark before dropping into the cache area.
Looks like the area can get a bit wet when it rains.
Look out for the stinging nettles! *ouch*
I made my way out via a different route.

I love these big ammo cans - I'll have to get my hands on a few for my next hides. Overall, this was an excellent cache - you've got a lot of "thumbs-up" and a *recommended* from me for this one, c@w. TNLN.
P.S. This was my 50th GCA find - woo-hoo! I'll catch Keeper of Time's GCA finds at this month's rate!
2nd FTF for the day.
Managed to work this on into our caching day, we were originally going to approach from the north but took the recomendation to park at Brimbank Park and walk over the bridge. We seemed to have the place to ourselves today and after a very nice walk we closed in on GZ. Just had to go off track with about 25m to go and a quick search of the area soon had us with the very well stocked cache in hand.

Thanks C@W for showing us the "other" side of Brimbank Park.
