Description

A trig point (also known as a Trigonometric Station) typically consists of a black disc on top of four metal legs or concrete pillar, resembling a navigation beacon. It is also accompanied by a metal disc, which is located directly below the center point of the tripod or on top of the pillar itself.

Trig points are generally located at the top of hills or points of prominence in the landscape. Many provide unique views and challenges, with some being difficult to get to.

These points were regarded as valuable to surveyors, providing reference points for measuring distance and direction, and assisting in the creation of maps.

To log a find on the Geocaching Australia website, you will need to include a picture of the trig point, along with your GPS receiver and (preferably) yourself. Long distance / telephoto type pictures are against the spirit of this cache. You are encouraged to leave a description of your journey in your log to help others in finding the trig point.

The original collection of trig points has been sourced from Geoscience Australia and may contain inaccuracies.

Please respect local laws and regulations when searching for trig points. If you believe that a trig point is located on private property or in a dangerous location, you may archive the cache, by clicking on Log this Cache and place an "Archived" log on the Geocaching Australia website.

If you feel that you can add to the description of this trig point or adjust the difficulty / terrain ratings, please feel free to edit this cache and amend the information suitably. Vandalism of the cache description or other information will result in your account being terminated.

Our photo is taken from the road and my poor reason for doing this and not walking across to GZ is that we had finally got past a large truck hauling heavy equipment and if we'd walked over to it the truck would have got past us again!!!!
See other photos have been taken from the road too so I guess I'm not the only slack geocacher here.
Thanks.

Too wet to walk to it so took the picture from the road

Driven past this one several times but never had chance to make the short walk there until today. The long frosty wet grass was very refreshing but thankfully the sun was out to warm things up. TFTTP!

Working our way around various caches and trigs on the west coast with stainless steel rat and TazScout We eventually found a safe spot to pull over on the side of the road for this one. Great path into the trig - not.

Caching our way around the West coast after the Oz Day event with SSRat and Goose&Egg. Found a spot to pull over on the side of the road for this one.

Thanks for the cache sirius Tas

I stopped off on way to Strahan and found this trig. a lot easier trig to find than what I normally find.

I did like the little walk through the button grass though.

This was one of many cache I found while travelling to Strahan to visit family and to go on a boat trip up the Gordon River.

Found at 1445

TFTC.

I scrambled up the bank from the road, being careful not to tread in the water. The vegetation at the top had been cut and it was like walking on scrubbing brush bristles. Very strange. Then there was a dip, but after that the walk improved. The ground was very wet though and I was grateful for good hiking shoes. I saw the trig and fortunately after a short walk I was able to photograph it, without wading through the damp vegetation (and trampling it) the whole way.

We saw this trig on our way to Strahan from Queenstown this morning but we had to get to the Cruise.

Very foggy this morning but not so this afternoon.

Just had to watch the timing this afternoon.

Hi sirius Tas
Anne and I left for the West Coast about 0810hrs yesterday. Today, day two of the West Coast tour, saw us leave Queenstown, visit Strahan and stay the night at Zeehan.

This cache was the fourth on the agenda for today.
Arrived at a car parking area only and had fun tracking to ground zero. The ground was very wet as was the grass that I walked through.
Got to and logged the trig at 1006hrs this morning.
Took one path in and another on the way out. Saw a grass parrot on the way back to the car, which added to the joy of getting this cache.
Back into the cache mobile and off to Strahan so that Anne could look around that village for the very first time.

Found five caches in total for day one. Day two, eleven caches found. Have had a better time watching Anne's face as she got a better look at the West Coast. She's loved Nelsons Falls, Strahan and the Museum at Zeehan.
Thanks for the cache and the fun of the find
Cheers OldSaint.

While staying in Strahan this trig came up as being 'only 8km away' but it was a winding 16 km drive up the road to Queenstown. I thought I could grab this while waiting for some takeaway to be ready and I did but it took a lot longer than I thought. Only grabbed a pic from the roadside as I didn't want to damage the native vegetation.

It was a very soupy wander out to this cache and I may have stopped just before reaching the trig due to an exceptionally large muddy puddle and only one pair of shoes, but here is the strahan trig

Getting close to having to find somewhere to stay the night but time for a few more caches on the way.

09-Jan-11
Nice and easy drive by with some interesting landscape.

08-Jan-11
Another quick drive-by. The weather was cracking up, so I didn't get closer than the road - but that's still pretty close. I'm going to call it claimed.

26-Dec-10
Pulled up on the side of the road and Swampy wandered off into the wet while I used the zoom on my camera. When he got back he made me have my photo for a change but since I wasn't goiong to get wet I stayed near the side of the road

26-Dec-10
Found this one last night but too dark to go traipsing across the button grass....
Returned today and snapped this shot..
Thank siriusTas

Although it was only a short distance off the road, the walk to the trig point was through small shrubs and grasses in rather wet and muddy ground. TFTC

07-Nov-10
Found trig easily, hopefully it's ok to log this as a find as we took our photo from the road, due to the weather and the ground was very damp underfoot. It was a shame as the weather was beautiful yesterday. If this is not an acceptable log we will remove our entry and try again when the weather is a lot better. Cheers

Driving back into Strahan from Queenstown - we had spent the day driving the Mount McCall track on a mostly snowy day. This trig was nearly too wet to get to today however Dad braved the elements to get the obligatory photo. The GeoPrincess had spotted this one on the way to Queenstown that morning saying that she saw a White Trig - we were surprised as they are usually black.
