Description
Take a photo of yourself with GPSr aboard one of The Spirit of Tasmania (SPOT) Ferries with Melbourne in the background
Maybe not as easy as it first sounds as you need to be on the ship for a start. To do this you will need to travel to Devonport aboard one of the Spirit's of Tasmania unless you have other means of gaining access while the ship is in dock and take a photo of Melbourne (or as the locals call it Malbourne).
Include in the photo
- Yourself or your team
- Your GPSr
- Part of the Ship (handrail ect.)
- Melbourne
Post the photo with your found it log and if your travelling on the ship can you SPOT Devonport?

Technically, this can't be done any more (well, not from these coordinates at least ) given that the Spirit now leaves from the Geelong terminal and has done so since 23 October 2022. Maybe new coordinates to match the Geelong terminal or a new challenge for same is now needed.
On my return from a four day caching activity around Geelong.

on holiday with the family. our last complete family holiday. it was the beginning of a special time. sad too. the beginning of the end. now it's my son and myself and moving forward. will go back one day. My husband enjoyed the holiday but we had to cut it short due to his condition.
On our way to Victoria travelling on the spirit of Tasmania 1, on arrival in Melbourne I took the opportunity to grab a photo for this log. TFTC

With our Tassie motorbike tour this week getting me onto the Spirit for the first time in over 42 years , this one and its partner became a bit of a priority. Alas, the late departure and my not so good skills at selfie taking, especially at night, meant that it was a shoddy pickie but I got it at 20:40(!) nevertheless - a good ¾ hour before we set sail.
Many thanks madchilli (seeya at the other end ).

For the celebration of being married 50 years, Muggle Hubby said he wanted to return to the places we visited on our honeymoon, only this time by boat, instead of flying, so he could take his vehicle aboard also.
It was a perfect night for sailing, and we had a lovely view of the Melbourne skyline as we sailed away.
Thanks for this Locationless, I would not have known about it, had I not spotted someone else’s photo of it in the gallery yesterday.

#GA2817 - 18:20; After a drive down from the nation's capital, the geohoney and I had now boarded SPOT II. After leaving the geomobile on the vehicle deck, we headed to our cabin, then it was time for a SPOT of caching II and this cache was at the top of the list given our current location. The GPSr had the wanders, so I fired off a couple of snaps from a couple of locations to meet the requirements for the find. TFTC madchili

March 2016 saw us heading to Tasmania for our 3rd trip. This time to catch up with Climbing Son who was living there at the time and do some walking, birdwatching and caching. I actually got MrT to take a photo as we were leaving Melbourne (You can see the buildings through the haze). A nice smooth trip across this time. I hadnt printed out any info on Tassy GA caches but took plenty of photos. With Climbing Son heading over to Tassy tonight, it got me looking through our photos and see what I can use. TFTC

Thanks for the virtual.
Thanks for the virtual.
Travelling to Melbourne on route to Sydney for school holidays. Very smooth crossing only 1 metre waves so did not feel any swell. Lots of grey nomads trying to escape Tasmanian winter!

Had to drive through Melb first, did this one on the way home, so Spotted at 7pm yesterday just before we headed home.
I hope this fulfills the requirements of this cache, you may be able to see me in the reflections.
I was travelling from Melbourne back home to Tasmania after a month of travel on the mainland.

Having spotted Devonport yesterday it would be rude not to return the favour for Melbourne wouldn't it? Though it was a tad cooler at 6:30AM than at 7:30PM, the view was a little more up market.
Yes i can Spot Melbourne Logging this as we headed out of Melbourne heading to Tassie will get the Devonport one on the way Back to Melbourne.
Will upload photos soon.

Heading off for a few months caravanning around Tassie. Logging a cache is just the icing on the cake.
Good morning Melbourne. We had a good sailing night. Our Tassie holiday finished. Will get a photo uploaded when we get home.
Was pleased that due to the late setting off in Devonport, it docked in Melbourne at a time that I could cope with more readily. Nice to get a cache just for getting there! Thanks madchilli.
Had a photo taken while it was in dock, but because I was there on my own, I couldnt take a photo of Melbourne, only the ship to prove that I was there. TFTC
After a longer then expected wait to board the ferry we found our way around to give us a photo chance before sailing off into the distance.
JABs.

Picked this one up as we headed for Tassie on a short road trip. Had a nice smooth trip both ways but the ocean recliners are a bugger to try and sleep in.

Back to the big island...what a great trip we've had so far. We left our mark on the boat to celebrate our Tasmanian holiday. After planting A Devil of a Cache on the boat we've decided to deposit one cache in each state on our way home. TFTC

We missed our opportunity to log this on our return to trip as getting up and getting 2 geoKids ready was a bit of a challenge and we had to rush down to the vehicle deck as we were first off. By the time I thought about getting the photo we were all waiting in the car watching the big metal door open.
Therefore I decided to log the start of our Tasmanian adventure, and even though the photo was not quite right, it still shows us on Spirit of Tasmania II, sitting at the Captains Table restaurant with a pretty dismal Melbourne view in the background
Thanks for the fun!

Holidays are finished, goodbye to the North Island and back to my favourite South Island. I shared the ferry with 100's of holiday makers knowing that they will only be in Tasmania for a short time while my family lives on the great island.
Thanks madchilli for this fun virtual cache.

Had to do this on departure journey from Melbourne, as when first we arrived, it way one of those mornings...you don't get to sleep, then finally off you go, just when the ding-dong goes off and it's a mad rush to get outa there. TFTC

Flew into Melbourne this afternoon and picked up my new caching toy!
Quick trip from Reservoir to the Spirit to board just in time for the night crossing.
Once on board it was straight to the bar but not before getting a picture so I could log this cache.
Thanks for the cache madchilli

Two crossings on the Spirit in under two days is a bit much. At least I could get two more caches on the trip...

I travelled across on the 7th Feb, and had the GPS with me logging the speed of the Spirit during the journey. It travelled at an average of 52 kms per hour. Sorry the GPS not in the attached piccies when they were taken. TFTC.

A retrospective logging of the cache (I hope that's OK) - we ventured over to Tassie on the SPOT primarily for me to complete the Hobart marathon but it was a good opportunity to do some caching too - I still had my yellow etrex then & had loaded all of the traditional caches into it & then proceeded to navigate across Tassie using the arrow to guide me with no prior preparation - looking back it's amazing we got as many caches as we did. Loved SPOT - very relaxing way to travel - especially with a cabin.
