Description

Welcome to A Miracle in Sunbury by Team Ladava a virtual cache replacing the archived GC micro at the rebuilt Boardman Stadium.

At approximately 5.45 on Tuesday 8th. August 2000 a tornado hit the Boardman Stadium completely destroying the building.

More than 100 parents and children had a lucky escape when a twister, registering winds of 150km per hour, swept through the sports centre bringing down the roof and back wall during an Under 8 basketball series.
A paramedic said it was a miracle no-one was killed or seriously injured.

To log this cache simply photograph the Boardman Stadium sign or building with yourself or your GPSr.

Very Happy Thanks Team Ladava Smile

Hadn't heard this incident, but reading it now it certainly sounds as if a lot of people were lucky.

Grabbed the required photo and this it was back Melbourne.

Thanks Team Ladava...

A quick find on our way out of Sunbury to cache our way to Bendigo. Surprised it hadn't been logged for so long. TFTC

Before leaving home I had a plan to concentrate on GCA caches, mainly at Brimbank Park. A few GC's were also on the list but were not the priority for the day.

This was the first of the GCA's and was a quick and easy task to take the required photo on such a cold and quiet morning.

Thanks Team Ladava for this GCA cache.
#376. Cache visited at 1130am on 6/7/15

When we arrived at GZ were really struggled to find a park. The centre was a hive of activity. Looking through the windows we saw some very small children playing basketball - it looked as though the basketball was half the height of some of the children. This stadium is certainly a highly valued asset of the community znd it is very pleasing that such a great facility replaced the previous one. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. TFTC

I had to go out to make a delivery, so figured today was a good day to spend a bit of time collecting a smiley or two.

With the temperature pushing zero as we walked to school, short-stuff had her first experience with frost on the nature strips, to my amusement. Though starting off chilly, it was a beautiful sunny day, so once I'd completed the task I'd left home for, I enjoyed the fun drive through Konagaderra to Goonawarra and Sunbury...

One last find before getting home in time for the kids... and I don't even have to get out of the car.

Boy, that must have been a heck of a harrowing experience, and a miraculous escape for all concerned. Thanks, Team Lavada

Hmm... Seems like the works at this spot are never-ending! This time they were out on the road up to something, but that'd didn't stop us from a quick stop, snap and log. First time I've found a cache without even having to get out of the car or even open a door Very Happy

TFTC guys, and the story which I've either forgotten or never known. Hard to believe actually.

A fair bit of construction was happening at this venue. We had to dodge the workmen to get the necessary happy snap. Thanks.

A huge day of caching that started in the wee hours of the morning and ended at about 9:30pm with one exhausted trail runner. I had agreed to pick up my caching buddy jsmyong55 at a reasonable hour and when we had finished he and he had added another 120 caches or so to his tally. It was a nice way to end our partnership as J is heading back to Malaysia soon. It will be hard to find someone to cache with that can fill his shoes.

I apologise to all the CO’s for using a generic log but after the 130+ caches for the day for me I’m too exhausted to even think of writing an individual log for each. Thanks to each and every one of you.

Found by Roma and Max.
It was another trip down memory lane arriving at this GZ.
We well remember the tornado event and our search for your tricky hide that brought us here the first time!
Thank you once more Ian and Sandra, although our mission today is GCA, we can't leave town without at least one other challenge!
Cheers,
from Romax.

Stopped by Sunbury on the way back from the Bendigo GeGnome event.
Amazing story of survival!
Thanks Team Ladava for highlighting this interesting fact!

Found this centre easily. Did you notice the 3 x wheelchair ramps at thirds around the premises.. Very well designed.
Windy today, but not as windy as the event that helped create this cache.
Thanks for the cache.

Out for some driving practice with Jess, I knew this one would be easy to manoeuvre to, so we stopped past to grab the picture.
I'd done the original micro (which was very clever), so this one was a snap.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks Team Ladava for this cache experience and revisit opportunity today,

Found the old micro, so it was only fitting that I return for the virtual. A bit of a crowd was around the entrance so the photo is from across the road.

We had found the old GC micro at this site previously, so today was just a matter of grabbing a photo. Congratulations to Keeper of Time for the FTF this morning... and nice photo, too (we honestly didn't see it before we took our photo!).

Yeh !!! FTF
We remember this location from a previous Team Ladava cache. This was a very welcome diversion from work today and made for a nice drive on a sunny day.

Thanks team Ladava for bringing us back for a second visit.
