Description

Bulk Handling Facility

After a short walk to GZ you will be able to see some of the grain bunkers associated with the Bulk Handling Facility at Wallaroo..

Grain is brought here to Wallaroo from all over the Peninsula..

A large amount of grain is exported yearly from this Port to places all over the World....

Take time to drive down along the coast and take in the coastal views along the foreshore and also the large silos which house the grain prior to shipment..

We approached this forgotten road from the North which made this an easy drive-by find.

While staying in Wallaroo we headed towards The Gap and Cape Elizabeth to do a bit of 4x4'ing and grabbing a few caches on the way.

We are regularly amazed at how well some of these GCA caches survive in the elements and often without being found sometimes for years and this one is no exception. All nice and clean and dry and plenty of swaps.

Many thanks for the hide Margieh ClappingDancing

Thanks to 2ystassies log we persevered here until we found a way to drive to the 2 caches on this closed off bit of road.
It didn't take too long to locate this one.
Two Tasmanian finders in a row here - Go the Tassies!!
Thanks.

After our success on the pier we decided to try this cache. After checking out both ends of the area Mrs y'stassie decided to scramble across the barrier and walk to GZ about 280m away. She was almost there when she noticed a car coming up the straight - Mr y'stassie had found the locals access point and drove to GZ. After a short hunt the cache was located. All was in great condition even though the cache had not been found for over 2 years.
We wondered whether the local lads ever use this straight stretch of isolated road as a drag strip.
Thanks Margieh for an enjoyable and challenging caching experience. We hope other geocachers will attempt to find this cache.

Due to the long time since the last find, I was a bit worried that the cache might not be there, ( Shame on you I hadn’t updated my database ) but no worries! Hardest bit was fighting my way through the undergrowth to get to the road, oh and extracting the cache from its hidey hole. Thanks for the nice walk.

One of our first finds for the morning as we were heading south for a bit of out of zone caching.

A nice walk on a rather cool morning!

Love a cache where the co ords are right on the money.

Plenty of flies and ants today .... no cows.
Please be careful with traffic during harvest season.

After doing a new GC.com cache decided to stop off on the way home and grab this one as well. I think the cows wanted to come home with us they followed us back to the car.

A quick find before work this morning. Since this road was blocked off, I've always thought it'd be a good place to hide a geocache. Mainly because finders don't have to worry about all the passing traffic! It was all peace and quiet here this morning.

Happy Anniversary, Geocaching in Australia!

Thanks for the neat hide Margieh.
