Description

This cache replaces GA18684 the previous cache at this GZ.

Yarrie Lake is a jewel in the usually hot, dry inland of NSW, bordering on the Pilliga Scrub.  It is  a 3km saucer-shaped expanse of water thought to have been formed by a falling meteor many thousands of years ago.

It is appreciated by the locals of both Narrabri and Wee Waa - two towns each less than half an hour’s drive away.

Water skiing, swimming and picnicking are favourite past times here. Camping, both powered and unpowered, sites are available.  You can walk right around the lake but not drive as there is only a footbridge across the wetlands.  You could however cycle. Now you can cache as well as there are a few caches scattered throughout the bush. One day the trail might extend the whole way. BYO pen

Enjoy your caching but don’t forget to carry water even though the path is mostly shaded. Please use stealth in busy times and ensure that the cache is not visible when you return it to its GZ.

After 4 DNFs we decided to abort the searches and check out some of the nearby Australia Telescope (and air-conditioning!)..

Four out of four DNFs here today. Not a good sign. Maybe caretaker is just too good at his job. hahaha. Nice area to visit, though might be better when not so dry. Thanks for bringing us here anyway.

Sorry to say, but might need to consider archiving a few of these. Sad

Not so much a DNF as a couldn't get close. Noah may have been able to get there, but not us today I'm afraid! Whistle

Would have needed a boat to get to this one today. Water water as far as the eye could see....

We had to stop about 70 metres from GZ as the road was underwater...couldn't actually see where the water stopped on the other side....if ti stopped at all.

Again, maybe another day SG.....
