Description
Dam and Histroic Grave
This cache takes you past a very old grave from 1878 and next to the Frome dam wall.
The headstone is for Thomas HORSBURGH who Died in 1878, aged 24yrs.
Park near the old house and walk down the track opposite to the grave and cache taking the track on the right at the Y junction.
The track to the left leads to a river crossing a short distance down the hill.
We where not expecting to place any caches this weekend so it was a bit spontaneous.
There is some excellent history and tracks to follow in this area. Some good hidden gems of campsites as well.
A small scramble required to retreive the cache.

After I drove passed the house and also missing the turn down to the damn i turned round and headed to explore the house, it was a bit of a surprise to see that the house was in such good condition that someone was in fact living in it, with all the doors open i ventured inside to explore while the goose waited for me outside.
Most of the rooms looked lived in and i half expected someone to be sat in a chair drinking a cuppa, not wanting to disturb someone's belongings or encroach on someone's temporary living space i left after a quick look round.
We drove back onto the 'main' road and even down the road the the damn but Goose didnt like the look of it so i ended up parking on the main road and walking back, It was nice to see the grave and after a bit of a clamber I managed to find the cache and we added our names to the logbook.
Thanks for the cache.

We had a look at the old house. Someone seemed to be living here but it was a bloody mess! We walked down to the dam and were disappointed to find a gate to stop us going out on the walkway.
The cache was hard to find, buried under a year of debris. SSR made his way up and around and approached from above to locate it.
Thanks for the cache shazcol

#GA4099 - 09:00; I wasn't planning a caching day today, but with double dZ points on offer, I decided to get out nice and early for a quick trip and collect some of the newer caches around the north east, which have appeared since my last visit in some places I'd never been, or had not visited for many years. Collected a couple of GC caches in Branxholm before heading out to the Mt Paris Dam then on to Derby for coffee and a cache, then on to this one. Drove past the turn off and had to turn back, parking the geomobile near the old house, before making my way on foot along the track and on to GZ. Located the cache and added my name to the log underneath a caching buddy from Canberra who made the find in 2016. Unbelievable that this one has now had two years since the last find by Hilberts in 2017, as it is well worth the visit! TFTC shazcol

So glad I came in here. Was thinking about driving past but having driven on other dirt roads this trip, I thought this one couldn't be any worse.....and it wasn't. In fact it was better than a lot so no problems. Once at GZ, it took a few minutes to uncovered the prize but all was good and the log soon signed. Checked out the grave across the road.....shows life was tough. The check out the dam and a couple of photos are attached.
Thanks Shazcol...enjoyed the area.

Travelling around Australia and now in Tasmania! So exciting. The weather has been kind to us so far.
Today we moved from Scottsdale to Derby! Then set off finding some local caches.
We found your cache in good condition. Took us a little while to work out how to reach the cache but all good on arrival.
Thanks shazcol.

Found after a few aborted attempts in the past (due to construction works).
Found easily.
Had a look at the lake and Dam and the little grave/memorial nearby.
Very interesting, my kind of cache.
Thanks!

We came up to this cache after unsuccessfully trying to find the old Moorina power station. After all, this was the place where the water for the power station came from.
I'll have another crack at the station later (more research required!).
This cache was found quickly and although I was able to write my log, the log is damp and the cache had a small amount of water in it. I left it open whilst I walked across the top of the dam to the other side (WHAT? You are not supposed to walk under that fancy new metal structure? DAMN!) and back but it still damp.
Also checked out the grave and then departed for places north.
Thanks for the cache!

After a night of camping and unsuccessful fishing we tried our luck at finding this cache that had been on our to do list for too long. Almost didn't find it until I read the hint. Log book was too wet to sign so we placed a small piece of fresh paper in. Great place to visit. TFTC

We turned this into an almost drive-by as we were running short of daylight by the time we arrived. Note to self: when checking GPS for nearby caches on the road for "just one more before dark" & spotting one within 5km, remember they are "crow kms"! This was at Weldborough; the true distance was closer to 15km. Then we turned it into a D3 to get the coach & 6 horses turned around with something approaching a 56-point turn. Damn rock.
No roadworks, no construction, but one new looking dam (sadly locked to fishermen). Oh, & one old & lonely grave.

An easy find once we found GZ. A lonely home and an even lonelier grave. Don't think the road in gets much use. Would never have come here if not for the chance of a smilie. TFTC
A nice, quick find after a muddy walk to the cache. Lots of muddy roadworks to the construction site which now looks complete.
We walked down the steeper, narrower, alternative path and back up the road opposite the old site but we couldn't find the old grave site.
Hopefully all the recent works haven't disturbed the site
Thanks shazcol for bringing us here.

Hi shazcol
This cache is a ripper; I loved it!
Snakes, a good walk, construction works, an empty dam - construction of a new irrigation scheme; a river bottom and a couple of friendly muggles that had fished these "waters" some time ago.
I found and logged the cache at 1235hrs. Log book is damp but you could still record your log.
Thanks for taking me here for I had never sojourned here before.
Highly recommended!
TFTC and cheers;
OldSaint.

Found on our North East caravan and caching weekend, have visited this area years ago nice to return for a cache. Access to this cache may prove difficult depending on when you visit as the dam is currently a construction site and empty. We made a quick find and all is good at GZ TFTC

We're very late in logging this cache.
At the time, there was no water in the dam, only a stream.
Thanks Shazcol

Following recent heavy rain, there was a reasonable volume of water cascading over the day face today - quite spectacular. The clue enabled a quick find. It was pleasing to see that the grave in this isolated location was being well cared for with relatively freskhflowers. TFTC
Took a short walk down an alternative track and nabbed this cache quickly. Checked out the grave but the inscription was very hard to read. Wandered back up to the car and met an elderly gentleman who was very knowledgable about the area. Thought he might have been a fellow cacher at first but think he was just heading off on a walk. Thanks.

Finally got motivated to get out caching...nice spot to venture...certainly an unusual place for a grave site. Must have died working the mines nearby??...30 years before the dam was built. Cache is all ok. Really enjoyed the area...so many thanks shazcol...Cheers.
