Description

Kittykatch and Smittengranny have worked together to put this small  geoart on Lake Ginninderra

The Lake Ginninderra Northern Peninsula is accessible off Ginninderra Drive via Diddams Close.  The park has swimming areas, boat launching, picnic areas, play spaces including children's playgrounds, barbeques and public toilets.  Power boating is prohibited but there is plenty of room for kayaking and canoeing, and of course geocaching.

This geocache is a traditional geocache style hide where the published co-ordinates are the location of the geocache itself. There are a second set of coordinates in the caches which indicate the location of the geoart icons. There is no puzzle to complete - head to the cache coordinates to find the container.

The physical hides will be found around Lake Ginninderra and should take you about an hour to complete each set.

I knew that I had ‘Australia Day’ free, so when I heard that there was going to kayaking trip in Canberra, I jumped at the opportunity to add my name to the attending list. This is a great way to use my new TOTT which I got for Christmas. Big Grin
First of all, I needed to get to Canberra but the question was when? Did I leave at 4am in the morning to arrive in time for event & launch… NO! Thankfully! Instead, SmittenGranny offered me a place to stay Tuesday night. So after I finished work, I drove to Canberra and arrived early so I had dinner as well as finding a couple of GCA caches.
Then after my night sleep, it was time to drive to the event. I was there for only about 15minutes before heading off to the launch site so I could setup my Kayak. We set off at 8am heading to down to the end… kind of. We called ourselves ‘The Coconut Kayakers’.
We went to #15 to do the multi cache and passed by two other caches before heading off to the end of the trail. Our plan was to find #24 as well but due to not being visible we decided against it. So, we will need to return sometime to find #24 & #25 (as well as #1 to #6). After finding #23 we made our way back to the starting point finding as many caches as possible along the way. Most were quick and easy finds, only a couple of them took a little bit longer.
When we finally got back to & found #8, which was approximately where we started, we had an ultimatum, should we find #7 (which was a multi) or head back to the cars? We decided to go for it and after finding this one we also found another cache called ‘Dairy Dock II’ before heading to the cars. It took about 4 hours to go up and back.
After we packed up the cars, we headed off to Macca’s for lunch. When we arrived we realised that there was a cache there so after we visited the WP’s, we had lunch. Then headed to GZ which we found after a search. However, we ended up with two cache containers (one painted black with the original log book and a new on with only one log in it). We replaced them together. One of the containers needs to be removed.
Then we headed our separate ways which for me meant going home. But not before finding two more caches near Gold Creek. These were quick finds. At about the half-way mark home, I stopped off to buy some refreshments. This included a drink and a delicious donut. The day was great fun. Big Grin TB visit on all caches. I would like to thank all CO’s of the caches I found and for allowing them to bring me and the caching community enjoyment. Big Grin TFTE and TFTC’s Big Grin

P.S. Sorry for the generic logs but this is so I didn’t provide any spoilers in my log.

Heading away for the weekend, but convinced GLISS! to stop in here on the way so we could clean up the last of this cool art trail. Nice fast find on this morning. Thanks for the cache!

After the failure at the previous hide Mrs Y'tassie hoped her luck would change here. Her GPS led her to a suspicious looking object and to her delight she uncovered a good sized cache container. The container and contents were in good condition.

Thanks for this cache in your GeoArt series Smittengranny. Even though the weather was grey this morning it was very pretty beside the lake.

#GA5276 - 10:06; A plan was hatched a few days ago with Sol de lune to tackle the two GeoArt series on the shores of Lake Ginninderra and today was the day. Set off from John Knight Park on the bikes and made our way around the series in reverse order and wrapping things up in just on half an hour. We then tackled this series, which took about an hour and a half. Despite it being a fairly easy ride, with most of the caches quickly and easily located and signed, we spent more time than we should have and collected a few GC caches as well. Top job getting this series out there! Apologies for the generic logs Rolling Eyes TFTC Smittengranny Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out with LuckyL10n today to tackle these GeoArt series of caches. Started at the car park of John Knight park and slowly cycled our way around the lake. No real issues other than a couple taking a few minutes to locate, however the good news all were found. A great morning to be out, but as was we mentioned, there always seems to be a head wind when the bikes come out. ShockedShocked

Thanks Smittengranny...great to see the new cache type here in Canberra...well done on getting it done. Very HappyVery Happy

Out for a caching trip with Just a cacher to grab some of this new GeoArt series before it warms up today.

A quick find on most of this series with only the odd delay due to high muggle traffic.

A joint *FTF* on this one with Just a cacher.

Thanks for the cache Smittengranny.
