Description
Guidefalls: amazing rocks, picturesque waterfall and unusual sponges.
Guide Falls tumble over hard strata of dolerite as the stream makes its way to the coast. This cache is at the base of the same strata as the falls but the walker will need to follow the trail upstream for an impressive view of the falls.
There is a well equipped picnic facilities close by with the usual toilets and tables set in well cared for grounds. Unfortunately the management recommends bringing your own drinking water.
There is lots of interesting information on the local fauna and flora including gemmules, the fresh water sponges that can be found with careful search in the river. This place is worth visiting just to find this life form, one that I had never observed before. However the main attraction in this area for me were the rock boulders with their many hexagonal joints and the way that the water flowed around the boulders in the creek.
This cache was placed to celebrate ten years of caching in Australia.
Finding this cache may be a bit of a challenge as my older model Etrex wandered around a bit because of the trees and topography.
Do remember to wander up the newly refurbished pathway to the waterfalls......the cache is unfortunately part of the journey, not the destination.

Found this one yesterday after the GPS was saying 20m out in the open, but the hint made the cacher instinct search around where the cache was eventually found because it wasnt covered properly and was quite exposed, luckily it couldnt be seen from the track below so not many people would venture up the hill from the track. Recovered the cache so it wasnt so exposed after signing our name.
Have added more accurate co-ordinance for future finders, my GPS was accurate to 3m and wasnt jumping around and i had time to average it out.

This GA cache had a trackable in it, which we took.
Caches found 21 - inc 1 x FTF, DNF 3, Left alone due to muggles 2
1 new path tag, 1 x souvenir, 1 x trackable
Today we moved from Smithton to Boat Harbour Beach. Once we had parked the caravan up we headed to lunch at the Cafe before heading out caching. [^]
We followed the trail for the nearby multi which took us on a 120km round trip to be back at the start but obviously if your house wasn't here you only need to go one way.
Ducked the rain showers to have an enjoyable drive collecting caches as we went.
Had trouble here using the current co-ords. After reading the hint we broadened our search area and had a harder think about the hint and hey presto the cache was revealed!

Thank you for the cache
Finished logging "The Guide Has Fallen" and then walked to this cache.
An easy find and was surprised that it had been so long since the last cacher put hands on it. Covered in cobwebbs it was.
Signed the log and replaced the cache as found at 0735hrs.
Thanks for a great walk along side the river. Some great spots to look at as you stroll down stream.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
On our way back to the cache mobile we met up with etrexer who was just arriving to have a go at the caches in the area. Swapped stories for awhile then went our seperate ways. Funny that two teams turned up almost at the same time when the cache hadn't been found for about 10 months!
Also left a 'cheeseocoin' geocoin. Yes, I know it's a GCA cache, but it was a nice place for it to reside, having travelled all the way from the Netherlands! Have logged it through the nearby GC cache 'the Guide has fallen'.
Thanks CarrollEyre
The council are working here to revamp the path, and we did go around the gate that was up. We had cache in hand very quickly, signed log TN as we didn't have a swap on hand, replaced cache and left quickly. Didn't want to get caught by the council, behind the gate.
We love this area and try to get here as often as we can.
