Description
This is one of 10 geocaches placed in this area in honour of the 10th anniversary of the first geocache to be placed in Australia.
The GCAX series was published 18 May 2010 in honour of the first geocache to be placed in Australia, Lane Cove. The series is made up of 9 traditional caches and one puzzle. The puzzle is neither clever nor difficult; it's main purpose in life is to get you out and walking around the area - which is one of the things we all love about geocaching anyway. Each traditional cache has a letter and corresponding number inside the lid. As the cache descriptions do no t say which letter can be found in which cache, you won't know if you need to visit all or just some of the caches in the series to find the puzzle cache. But hey - you wanted to do all of them anyway, didn't you? ;-) The caches are all easily accessible and within Knocklofty Reserve.
GCAX05: Views North is placed near a break in the trees which gives you great views to the north.

it also looks like Henry and may have found this cache a few times recently
Story of our day:-
I had been talking about doing Jurassic Park for a long time now and its come up a couple of times in as many weeks, while we were all out doing the Pipeline on bikes and then again when i was walking back from the event with Goose and Bear. Last weekend Goose started talking about a nice walk in the area of the mountain, first idea was to finish of the pipeline doing the lower ones walking back to Fern Tree. Somehow our plan of an easy walk turned into a monster starting out at Big bend heading for Jurassic Park and exiting the park at Mount Stuart.
After parking the car at Mount Stuart Smiley was good enough to drop us off at Big Bend and we started our walk into the lost world at 10:22, following the Lost World 'Track' to GZ we didn't make bad time getting the first cache of the day at 11:30, We enjoyed some great views that we would have never come across if not for this cache. Next came the fun bit getting out of the Lost World, all was going well until we incorrectly followed cairns that lead North and until one of us looked at the map we considered ourselves on the correct path, a bit of clambering later we were following the path we needed marked by yellow and red paint marks. At 13:00 we got to the parks sign that said 'Lost World 45 minutes one way' while we agreed with the 'very steep difficult track' we disagreed with the timings!
From here we followed the Old Hobartians and Hunter tracks this was a bit of a rest till we started down the Breakneck Track which almost lived up to its name, we were pleased when we crossed the main fire trail and we were back on a less painful path, after this we made good time finding caches at a more respectful rate and before you know it we were into the Knocklofty area for a last few finds before limping down all those nasty steps to where we had parked the car 10 hours earlier its now 20:22 and we are all knackered.
We found 2 caches from this series today after running out of daylight to do the circuit. This one was exposed and covered only by 1 stick. Still after over 3.5 years without a find it has lasted remarkably well. We signed the log and recorded the necessary details and rehid it under a bit more camo. TFTC
Okay, rewind. Before the trip to Hobart, we had loaded up all our caches into the Nuvi. We were sitting in the car in the carpark, putting all the waypoints for Knocklofty manually into the Gecko (for better accuracy), when the damnable Nuvi died for no apparent reason whatsoever. That left us with only the waypoints we'd put in till then (about 13) and no descriptions or hints or info, nothing but the coords. Nothing to do about it except set off and hope for the best.
So we made our way around to the junction near GCAX05, saw there was another waypoint there and wasted a ridiculous amount of time hunting around in the blazing hot sun, getting sunburnt and weary and frustrated, until I eventually concluded that it was probably a multi and since we had no info for it, we should give it up as useless. So we did, and instead went and looked for your cache, which to our relief was found easily.
(Later when we got home, I discovered that the cache we'd been searching for in vain was the false coords of a puzzle cache, which was even worse. )
The abovementioned failure of the Nuvi was also the reason why we could not complete any more caches in this series. Still, we collected the numbers out of each of the ones we did in the hope that we may someday return to finish what we started.
It was a great series of well placed caches, very enjoyable and we'd have loved to do them all (stupid Nuvi). Thanks also for the lovely boost in GCA finds. (We love GCA caches, and it was one of the main reasons for picking this reserve above all the other bazillions of caches in Hobart). Cheers!!
All caches in this series found today have been without use of the hint a my Geosphere only has the location in it - no descriptions or hints...
Found quickly from 12m away. TNLN, thanks Snuva
With the clouds looming and the threat of rain becoming greater we found this cache. Took frog ring ring and left bouncy balls.
Thanks
The bonus was a great view almost all the way to the cache !
Once again, a nice straightforward hide, always appreciated when doing a series like this.
So ends a late afternoon geocaching diversion - my it gets dark so early in winter !
Thanks for the cache, Snuva !
