Description
This is one of 10 geocaches placed in this area in honour of the 10th anniversary of the first geocache to be placed in Australia.
The GCAX series was published 18 May 2010 in honour of the first geocache to be placed in Australia, Lane Cove. The series is made up of 9 traditional caches and one puzzle. The puzzle is neither clever nor difficult; it's main purpose in life is to get you out and walking around the area - which is one of the things we all love about geocaching anyway. Each traditional cache has a letter and corresponding number inside the lid. As the cache descriptions do no t say which letter can be found in which cache, you won't know if you need to visit all or just some of the caches in the series to find the puzzle cache. But hey - you wanted to do all of them anyway, didn't you? ;-) The caches are all easily accessible and within Knocklofty Reserve.
This cache is not at the published coordinates. To find it, you will need to visit enough of the other caches in this series to find the letters corresponding to this clue:
S42° ED.AHG' E147° IF.CAC'

Todays visit to the area came about after a chat with goose last night and we decided we had enough information to make a educated guess, well we both had different guesses and it turned out my guess which was as always is the way was the longer walk was in fact the correct one, after stopping at the first option and searching between the boundary waypoints we moved on after about 15 minutes to the other option and again searched between the upper and lower limits of our waypoints, again we didn't come up with anything so I expanded the search and spotted a matching hint item and then the cache from a distance.
Considering the cache has been unfound for so long and was last found by a muggle called Oliver it is in very good condition and everything was dry inside, after adding our names to the logbook I packed it all away and found some camo to hide the cache so it wasn't out in the open as we had found it, meanwhile the goose logged his find online using the app.
It's great to get this question mark off my map as it has been a bit of a thorn in my side for over 5 years now, I searched for all 10 caches just on the off chance the missing ones weren't in fact missing, logs would say I have visited this area 5 times but I would say it's more likely to be 10 to be honest, never wanting to write a DNF as I would come back again and search some more, Thanks for a great series of caches Snuva they have provided many hours of entertainment.
Cache is still in good condition.
Some of the series is missing but an educated guess will give you the final coords however I'll help out futere finders: G=1 C=6, you can still find the rest out there
The cache in question GCAX04: Painted on the Spot has been archived, but if you want the missing number it is 6.

Well, once again, we took off and just followed the arrow. Came across some landcare people (?) working near another cache we have previously found, so we walked to the east for a while before resorting to following the arrow again.
Arrived at GZ and the cache was found quickly because we spotted it from an angle.
Took time to catch our breath, left with a sense of achievement.
Thanks for the series Snuva - a well thought out use of the area.
Thanks for the cache and another walk around the hill.
Took two different days to find the complete series after sunday lunches at the mother in laws. These are well worth the walk
TFTC and TFTGS (Thanks for the great Series)
Took Army Man left bouncy ball
Thanks for a great series, and the incentive to flog myself up the hill a few times!
I am so glad that the final was placed where it was (I AM a little twisted, I admit).
Well done to Snuva, and let us not forget, Happy 10th Anniversary to GCA !
P.S. I hope we don't have to wait another 10 years to get more of these, Snuva !
We thoroughly enjoyed this series. It was a perfect Autumn day for caching on Knocklofty. We enjoyed the walk and the spectacular views. The scenery from the final GZ was spectacular and the 20 minute stroll back down to the car park was a great warm-down after all the climbing. Thanks Snuva for a great series. We appreciate all the time and effort you have put into setting this up.
Tricky hides certainly have their place, but my favourite hides are ones like these, where the challenge and reward is in getting there, not in being able to second guess the hider. (Mind you, if I was any good at finding tricky hides, I'd think differently.)
If the timing hadn't worked out for me to find this series on my day off, then it would've been a great one to do with a group of family and friends. With some planning (and a decent map or two), the entire series can be completed without ever being too far from a well formed track. The caches are all hidden in obvious enough places that kids could find them, and they are well stocked with plenty of swaps.
The route I chose wasn't ideal, but it worked well enough and allowed me to pick up a couple of other Knocklofty caches along the way. All up, it took me 2 hours 45 minutes, with a moving time of about 1.5 hours.
Thanks for the great series!
