Description

A short stroll into a beautiful, tranquil area that will not take your breath away BUT give you a breath (or three) of the freshest air you can experience.

The cache is placed in a Reserve that is only a short drive from a nearby City but once here you feel like your miles from anywhere. This area has many walking track to explore, BBQ facilities and plenty of wide open spaces for the kids to run free.

There is also a 'Tree Top Adventure' situated her that 'WILL' take your breath away if your game enough to take the 'plunge'.

As this area is quite delicate and undisturbed and also the satellite reception may be very patchy, there are very generous hints supplied to 'hopefully' make this an easy find so as not to disturb, damage the surroundings.

Park at S41° 18.387 E147° 12.628 and make your way along the 'River Track' although there is a more direct track to GZ, this route will offer you much more to see and is by far, a more pleasant walk. You will then come to a crossing in the path; here you need to take the 'Ecology Track' which will lead you directly to GZ and 'hopefully' a quick find.

If you reach the shelter you have just pasted GZ so at this point, read the hint, work out where the cache is located before making your way 'up' to retrieve it.

Cache is a 1lt sistema container with log book, pen and an assortment of swaps.

This cache had me up and down the track until I decided to just keep walking and got to the little hut and knew I was then close as my sat-nav was everywhere. Cache in very poor condition, wet and full of water.

Followed the instructions to the letter - reached the shelter and knew I had gone to far. Retraced my steps and spied a likely hiding spot up the hill. I climbed the hill and my instincts were correct . The cache was well covered by dirt, leaves and wood. I prodded the area with a stick and heard a noise that sounded familiar. In I dived and was rewarded with a cache that was in good condition considering it has been unfound for over 100 weeks. It was a cloudy day but the coordinates were close to where the cache was located. Thanks for the excellent hint.

In the area chasing the Merthry Park Trail series. Dropped by Hollybank Reserve to locate a couple of outstanding GA caches. This one proved a bit of a challenge due to the rather damp weather and heavy tree cover bouncing the GPSr. A nice easy find once in the correct spot. Enjoyed the walk, love those big trees. thanks..!!

Found this one after a bit of digging. In bad shape but I just happen to have a suitable container with me. Replaced cache and kept original log even though a bit damp.

At first I thought this cache had a terrain rating which was too high but it's about right. Searched all over the fallen giant with no luck. Sad

Was muddy and a bit webby but we found it thanks

Stopped in to do the caches here while doing a cache run for the day not a difficult find though the cache did have some clingy 'friends' when retrieved. Beautiful spot for a walk. TFTC

Enjoyed logging this cache immediately after we had just met one half of "Thomarter" who was once again enjoying this walk. Geohubby kindly made the find while I stayed on the track on muggle watch.TFTC Very Happy

I know this area reasonably well and didn't really need to use our GPS but did so to see how it went under the trees.
I found it easily after negotiating a small tree which has come down recently right on top of the obvious access spot.
There must be something wrong with the lid as there was at least 1/2 cup of water in the container. Luckily the sealed plastic bags were doing their job!
I let the water drain while I signed the log.

I love this park and somehow missed seeing this cache when here a short while ago, so great to have another excuse to come back. This time ventured into yet another area not visited previously and had a great walk down the Ecology Track. At the start of this were some lovely old but apparently unused, most interesting buildings - although the toilets still seem to be in working order. Wended my way down the zig zag, getting ever closer, then it was a real scramble mounting the bank. The cache had a good covering of mulch, invaded by a heap of worms, and sadly it had about half inch of water in it. Possibly because of the amount of dirt in the clips. Cleaned it out as best I could. Contents appear ok inside their bags, other than rusty ring that I removed. Thanks for showing me another corner of this great area and for the cache michaels mob.

Hi Again
Had been to look for this cache once before. Their was that much GPS interference on that occasion I didn't get anywhere near the cache. However, I did enjoy the nature walk on that day and as it was my first time ever to the area, learning that a "Uni Campus" exists here was interesting. I parked nearby this facility on that day.
Returned today and started from the same place as I did last time.
Just followed the track down enjoying my solitude, the smells of the bush and the sounds eminating there from. Saw a few wallabies.
Arrived at ground zero and thoroughly enjoyed the area. My search was far more fruitfull this time and I logged the cache at 0847hrs.
Lingered at the structure for a while just enjoying what nature provides so well.
TFTC and cheers; OldSaint.

A pleasant walk to GZ on a cool autumn day only the sound of the stream could be heard. TFTC

This cache has a bit of everything. A bit of a bush walk from the car park to a nice formed track that went past the GZ. Somebody has recently knocked down a couple of young trees above the gz, and one actually has it's folage over the cache.

Oh did I mention it was cold here at 8.00 in the morning

Not being familiar with the area I drive up and down the main road with the GPS going ballistic My pre guess was that the cache would have been on a river bank near a bridge as is so common. Eventually found the picnic area. Well what an amazing place, I had never heard of it before and was just in awe as I wandered through those huge forests and gardens. It must have been a popular spot when the gardens were originally set out. Loved the two sculptures at the entrance only noticed them on the way out as I was in a bit of a hurry to locate cache.
No sign of item mentioned in hint so replaced it, the pen is missing and I didn't have one small enough fit container. The cache can be found WITHOUT trampling the flower beds to death. Love the spot. Left handmade glass bead took nothing

We decided to head over to Hollybank for a drive to escape the heat and have a picnic, and I was pleased to see a GCA cache here, which made my day even better!

Really enjoyed the walk to the cache, and the viewing hut near GZ was awesome. Not to sure I'm keen on the high-wire stuff nearby though!

Excellent spot, good hide.

Thanks for the top cache!

This was a great walk, especially the section straight down to the river!! The water was the most amazing colour (just as it is in the picture)
I cant wait to do the Treetop Adventure Dancing ...(hopefully when michaels mob has an event here Wink)

I did see one of the funniest things on this walk (well I may have actually caused it Rolling Eyes) but....after finding the cache I was walking back up the 'ecology track' as 2 bike riders came hurting along the 'river walk track', the first rider saw me out of the corner of his eye and must have either got a fright or maybe just wanted to be on the track I was on but he slammed on the brakes...the 2nd rider didnt react quick enough and went clean up and over him causing this rather specky crash. They separated themselves (and the bikes) from a crumpled mess and then ripped into each other about who's fault it was. Laughing I just laughed and wished I had of caught it on video ... no one was hurt but their pride was pretty crushed Laughing

Hollybank is a great place to visit at any time but the walk along the Ecology Trail on this magnificent early winters morning made the experience even more memorable. As others have remarked, GPS devices struggle with accuracy in this heavily wooded area but ours was sufficiently accurate to get us near GZ and then "cacher's instinct" took over and led us to GZ. TFTC

Had spent a few days at Hollybank quite some time ago during Fire training but had never ventured into this neck of the woods. The river was pretty full after recent heavy rains....enjoyable and serene spot to be. Cache is all well....many thanks MM...Cheers.

Ah the things we do for a ftf! Lucky Gu has great torches! We have been out here a few times before and still went the wrong way! Saw a possum who scampered away! After the find we high tailed it back to the Geomobile as we were concerned about the gates closing on us! Thanks Mob, great area. Happy Cacheversary!
