Description

This cache is located adjacent to the "Rose Creek Estate" winery, arguably the closest active winery to Melbourne's CBD.

Rose Creek Estate Winery

This hidden winery, unknown to most Melbourne residents (even the locals!), has been described as "Tuscany in East Keilor". This family-owned winery is run by Tony and Lina Siciliano. Covering an area of around 1.2ha, it features 3,000 grapevines, around 300 olive trees, and an incredible range of fruit and vegetables all growing in the middle of suburban Melbourne. Rose Creek Estate now produces 10,000 litres of chardonnay, shiraz, shiraz/cabernet/merlot and zibibbo - a southern Italian-style made from muscat grapes. The wines and olive oils have won numerous medals at several regional shows and exhibitions. You can read more about Rose Creek at their website, and in this recent article in The Age newspaper.

The cache

The cache is a square Sistema container, camouflage painted. For those who found the multi that I had hidden here, you will be familiar with the location at GZ. However, due to two mugglings of the old cache, this one is in a different final location. See the hint if you have trouble locating it!

Congratulations to wallyhunt for the FTF, and claiming the shiny-new FTF pathtag attached to a FTF trophy!

GCA Find #56

Easy find in a quiet place. Replaced as found. Razz

Visiting friends around the corner Kazidy and I dropped past today. I used to live in this area 15yrs ago and swim in the quarry that used to adjoin the vineyard. Thanks for the trip down memory.

Actually the first cache we didn't look up with a map, took a while to find the best place to park before our walk but overall a fun cache! TFTC

In Melbourne for a few days chasing GCA caches and this one was next on my list. Stopped too high to start with and knowing I could get closer, headed a bit further afield and soon had the cache in hand. After a good while, mother nature had tried to re-claim it, but all was good and the log was soon signed. Grabbed the GC trackable to move on.

Thanks pwags.....but wet today, but no problems with the your cache.

Found it! It was pretty easy to locate, but pick a fine day and perhaps not after heavy rain.
Dropped TravelBug Lanzarote Gecko.TB2HXRW

This Travelbug LanzaroteGeckoTB2HXRW was dropped at a
Geocache Australia cache not a Geocache.com cache.

If a local geocacher can find and move the Lanzarote Gecko Travelbug
to a cache associated with this Geocache.com site, then the Gecko
can continue on it's way! help me out here guys!

It took us quite some time to find a dry way across the creek but once we had navigated our way, we were able to make a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks for the cache.

The massive amount of rain over the past couple of days has turned the creek into a raging torrent, and things are more than a tad damp underfoot. The contents of this last cache for the day were nice and dry, which is more than I could say for myself. It was worth it, though... it's beautiful here, even with the construction happening at the top of the hill above.

Nice Spring day to catch up of a few caches in the area.
What a great park and walking track. Love the stream along it!
Had to negotiate getting over it, but it was fun to say the least!

Enjoyed the gentle walk and being a local have visited this winery on one of their open days. Amazing how productive this site is - albeit with a lot of hard work. Not just wine but olive oil and other produce. T4TC pwags.

Amazing spot for a winery, came in on the wrong side and had to cross the river. T4TC

Had to cross the river. Never knew there was a vineyard here. Amazing! Left Christmas Prezzie! Smile

Found by Team Ladava around 3.00pm
We were down in Keilor on a shopping mission and this was the nearest so why not.
I know, I should have known better than to blindly trust the navigator to take me to the right side of the creek. As soon as I saw the location I knew it was wrong as I had found the earlier version. Oh well, after circumnavigating the area in defiance of the instructions from that darn device we came to a familiar location and strolled along the creek for the find (Very appreciative of the hint among all those thistles thriving in the wet spring weather)
Indeed a resemblance to the Tuscany we see in the books and on the screen.
Took nothing
Left alien device
Our thanks to pwags for the cache and bringing us back to this very pleasant location. (Well I say us but apparently I did the earlier cache solo)
Cheers

Find number 8 out of 11 today. I have done the hill! I wasn't going to do it again! The walk along the creek was great, a little muddy at times but better than that damn hill! Thanks pwags, good to come back here again.

Thinking the creek might be tricky after the bit of overnight rain I used the hill instead... Happy to find the cache in good condition, having previously found what was left of the multi.... Thanks for bringing it back.

You know, when you enter co-ords correctly, it is MUCH easier to find the GZ. Manually entered these and ended up about 30m away bush bashing through scrub as tall as me... with the 3yo! As I was checking the co-ords the hubby rang to see how I was going, and laughed when I said I was trying to check co-ords.

Once I re-entered the correct co-ords, escaped the scrub and wandered down further it was a nice easy find.

Out and about in the area, so thought it appropriate to drop in and pick up the cache.

A great walk and a nice surprise. I'm sure the walk up and down the vines keeps the vigneron fit!!

Found 11.40am
Having found the previous cache I knew to ignore where TomTom was trying to take us and we chose a parking spot close to the bridge. Nice walk round to GZ were we found the cache in the second place we looked.

I found this cache with caughtatwork today. This one was easy as daddy knew where to park and then it was just a short walk. Thank you.

The second last of the 10th anniversary caches today. I think that makes our haul 7 so far.
Having visited this area for the previous incarnation of the cache, we knew where to park and it was an easy stroll along the creek to the cache.
A few minutes searching at GZ and we had the cache container.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks pwags for this 10th anniversary cache.

Talk about disorganised. It's a wonder I didn't rock up without the coordinates or even without a GPSr. As it was I arrived well after dusk with flat batteries in my torch and none of my signature stickers. However I found the cache (so nice to get out and find one of the anniversary ones at last) although it will be a miracle if my pencilled scrawl in the logbook is legible. Thanks pwags; I'm sorry I couldn't get to it sooner.

Fount today at 13:15. That this cache lasted unfound in this location for over 13 hours is a minor miracle.

Happy 10th Birthday, Geocaching,
Thanks pwags for the cache,
Thanks C@W,
Thanks Dave Ulmer!!
