Description

This cache was placed as part of "2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia". It is not at the listed coordinates.

My first is in “Marco Polo’s lexicology“, but not in “Genghis Khan’s number sense”.

My second is in “a footballer’s homologue”, but not in “a cricketer’s match”.

My third is in “a consolatory and allegorical anthropomorphisation”,  but not in “a cheery and figurative animated character”.

My fourth is in “floodlit cotton mills”, but not in “marked fibre manufacturers”.

My fifth is in “the conformational Book of Job”, but not in “the hazy Genesis”.

My sixth is in “sororally oncologists’ drill holes”, but not in “caring dentists’ preventatives”.

The cache contains 10 balloons and a musical birthday candle to celebrate a decade of geocaching in Australia (these are available as swaps). It also contains a bunch of other swaps that fit the theme of the cache, but the theme is a spoiler for the puzzle, so it will remain a secret for now!

BTW, it’s not the first time this particular theme has been used for a cache in Tasmania, but I swear I thought of this idea for a puzzle first, so I decided to stick with it.

UPDATE: Because of troubles with the original hide, I've replaced it with something a bit smaller. If it survives, I'll replace it with something a bit classier. Bring a pen!!

Logs

I have looked at this puzzle a few times and while I have now found I had the correct idea I was implementing it wrong, after having a fresh look yesterday and getting nowhere I had an idea while at work and had tried it out when I got home and what do you know the numbers just feel out and within a minute or two I have the final coords.

Since I was heading out with Goose tonight was a good a time as any to grab this one, upon getting to GZ I was pleased to see the cache still in good condition even with it not being found in 16 months, log still dry and hidden away in it's home safely.

Thanks for a great puzzle and cache Gorbak

Wow, thought it might take us ten years to solve, not quite only been caching since 2011. Mr W finally cracked the code. GZ was located easily and no muggles around. TFTP and the brain strain. All good at GZ

We happened to be close by when a message came to say the cache had been replaced. A quick detour on the way home gave us a quick find. thx for replacing quickly

I checked on GZ and am pretty confident that the previous container had disappeared. I have replaced the cache with another, but I'm obviously out of form... It wasn't until I was at GZ that I realised that the "log book" I'd grabbed this morning was just a pile a note paper, not even stapled, and I didn't have a stash note either. Embarassed Anyway, there is at least something to find and sign now... and I'll have to return with a stash note and stapler another day!

It's been a while since the last find, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's been muggled. My hints are usually specific enough so that if you don't find it, you know it's not there. Mind you, it's been a few years since I've visited it, so maybe the vegetation has grown up. I should be able to check on it later this week.

we were excited to finally work out the idea behind this puzzle and went to find it late in the afternoon in very cold conditions. we found the prickly bush and stump and forced our way under but disappointingly only found a bit of rubbish but no cache. we assumed where it may/should be but left disappointed. We will have another look but will bring gloves next time. Despite our DNF we enjoyed the puzzle.

I have trying to work this one out on and off for many years.
I had another look yesterday and came to a stop at the same spot so sent an email off to a friend who rang back latter saying he would help me out when he got home tomorrow.
I woke up at 1:45 am and thought of what the answer could be so had to get up and try it, YES YES I'v got it. Very HappyVery Happy
This morning I sent my friend a message I'm right I don't need help.
This afternoon I went off to find the cache and was having a lot of trouble when my friend rang and told me I was looking in the right spot, so I dug a bit deeper and found it.
It's been 19 months since the last find.

This puzzle has been the nearest cache to home for me for quite some time now but the method for solving the puzzle was eluding me. Someone gave me a hint some time ago, but that seems to have been a red herring. I recently received a hint from another cacher which set me towards the correct direction, but still didn't present me with a solution that made any sense. Once I finally nutted out what I was missing it all fell into place very quickly and some very likely coordinates fell out of the puzzle. All of a sudden the title, hint and some other previous logs all make more sense than before. A nice cache, well put together. Thank you Smile

I have torn my hair out trying to solve this cache, as anyone who has seen me recently can tell Smile

I thought I had the solution, but it wasn't making a heap of sense, then Kaatka pointed out that I had missed some data and it all fell into place. Went for a walk today and can finally cross this cache off my unfound list. TFTC Gorbak Smile

Solved this one a few weeks ago after staring at it for way to long and getting led off onto many a wrong path. Finally had a doh, light bulb moment after staring at a print out for what seems like a millenia. Made it to GZ today and the cache was a nice quick find. Thankyou for the puzzle and the cache. Cool

As mentioned in our earlier log, we were reasonably confident of our solution but could not find the cache. Many thanks gorbak for checking on and then reinstating the cache. Today we were able to make a quick find. Thanks for the interesting puzzle and cache gorbak.

Hi Gorbak
Well, firstly, thanks for the cache.
It has taken a long time for me to get the gist of this one. A clue given at the recent event helped me get under way and a few taps on the computer keys soon had me find the co-ords. I learnt a lot about Marco Polo and Genghis Khan in the process. As for those other big words - dictionaries come in handy - now I know what they mean but I still can't vocalise them not to mention how to spell them.
A quick find had me signing the log at 1048hrs.
Then as I was thinking of some pics and where to take them I smashed my head into a sign near a certain structure and have been "scarred for life". I think I'll make a good crewman now; that is for those pirate caches - AAARRRGH!!!
Great cache, good hide even though it took about "ten years and what seemed like a decade of caching" to solve the puzzle and find the cache.
Cheers; OldSaint.

I've replaced the cache with a smaller container - bring a pen! - that's hopefully hidden a bit better. If this version of the cache survives I'll replace it with something a bit more substantial.

Drat! I'll be able to check on the cache next week, but I've got a bad feeling about this!!

I'll need to come up with a more sneaky hide or turn it into a micro, methinks.

Could this cache plese be checked. We are fairly confident of our solution to the puzzle as it resulted in a location totally consistent with the hint and information provided in other logs. We spent about 30 minutes looking and digging in the pine bark but to no joy. A check would be appreciated.

Love the puzzle and drove within 25 metres ofthe cache. A drive by mystery. Tftc and the mental challenge.

Super mega thanks to DnA! - all 10 of them - for going the extra mile and replacing the cache container. ClappingClapping

Thanks for the update on the cache's status, beetles2. Unfortunately I won't be able to perform maintenance on this cache until February, due to my being on the other side of the planet until then.

Despite its condition, I would prefer not to archive it while it's still out in the field.

I'm wondering if one of the local previous finders would be able to retrieve the cache, such as it is, and keep it safe until I return... LaughingLaughingLaughing

Had this one solved before we headed south. GPS wasn't very co-operative though and we certainly drove around a lot of streets before we located a suitable spot in this area for a cache. Cache was very exposed and full of water. One corner of the container is chewed right out. Fortunately the log book has kept dry in its plastic bag but a maintenance visit is definitely in order. Thanks for the challenge. Think we're finally getting the hang of working out these southern mystery caches.

We had glanced at this a few times to no avail but a recent perusal in earnest led to new ideas and an elegant solution ! Big Grin
GZ was a pleasant surprise as well !
Oh, and what can I say: DnA followed by RebornCyclist followed by Dippedidooda followed by red tag seems to be a recurring theme lately, be they puzzles or traditionals ! To quote RC, "Aaagh!!" Surprised
Thanks for another great geocache, up to the Gorbak standard ! Big GrinBig GrinBig Grin

I was frustrated that I seemed to be making no progress with this puzzle when a possible solution started to dawn on me - the closest that I've ever had to a lightbulb moment but there was certainly no blinding flash! Gorbak seemed determined that no extra hints were needed...and now it seems, he was right! But now I'm wondering if in denying help, he may have actually given some? I'm not sure. Regardless, I was oh so pleased when I drove to a a very appropriate location, and even more pleased when I found the cache! Thanks Gorbak for the well thought through cache.

Aaagh! Beaten by DnA! again! Smile
I've been spoilt this week - two great puzzles.
I was on the right track with this one from the start, but made one eensy wrong assumption, which meant my coords looked all wrong.
An interesting GZ - I used to ride past here on the way to my girlfrind's place (all the way from Taroona).
Thanks for the brain exercise, Gorbak.
(took nothing, left nothing, by the way).

We loved this puzzle. We learnt the meaning of 10 new words in the process of solving this puzzle. Mr DnA! couldn't solve this on his own. In the end it took 10 minds to work this out, and believe it or not, 10 people went to retrieve the cache. We all thoroughly enjoyed the puzzle. Thanks Gorbak.
