Description

I almost called this cache the "retirement home" as there is a lovely stand of old gums tucked away on the side of the hill. They spoke of a time ages past and the serenity in the area at night reminded me of the slower pace of life not so long ago.

Old Red is a nice walk but it is on a bit of a slope so watch your balance. Also please be careful of the native grasses in the area.

Please be careful replace the cache as you found.

found the Red Gum and where the cache is supposed to be, but all traces have vanished. Not even broken pieces are left.

cache is broken and scattered around
but still there

Easy find today, though a bit steep.

The roos provided a good challenge to route around, but they soon scattered.

F(H)ound It! @5:00 PM

A short but steep hike from where I parked the car nearby. I admit I had to stop and catch my breath a couple of times. But when I looked up I could see the cache sitting in its nook and that was the incentive I needed to get there. The lid is broken and no longer weather proof but the contents are fine. I replaced it a bit further back so it cannot be seen so easily. A beaut hide and a lovely view of a large moon rising over Fyshwick. Thanks for the cache, cazbol.

I walked up the hill and then found I needed to descend to find this cache. Unfortunately the cache and its contents were scattered about. My guess it was an animal. Surprisingly, given the recent weather, the contents were dry. I put them all back in the container and re-hid it. This could do with a CO visit. TFTC cazbol.

A nice view from a good spot for a cache. TFTC [8d]

GCA 1187 - 11864. Found on a lunchtime drive/walk today.

I was in the area doing another cache and after a nice quick find there I had time to wander over and down to this one. Not sure why I haven't done this one before today but now its on the found list.

TFTC !!

Found 1:02pm. Decided with colleague from work to go for a walk to the Red Hill Trig, he had an interest in the walk and it suited me to then add this to my collections of finds along the way to the TRIG which would be another to add to my list of finds. So leaving Deakin we headed up the hill by car to the lookout and then parked near the café. From there we headed over towards the Trig direction and when I got as close to this on the path I headed off to look for this cache. The question now was which side of the fence. Deciding to head down the side that seemed a little easier was ok but I did have to cross over. Once at GZ the find was pretty quick. The cache container is a little worse for wear though with the lid damaged. Content was dry, log a has obviously gotten a little damp in the past but was dry now, so an update to this cache would be nice. The location though offers reasonable shelter from weather. I replaced after signing log back to where I had found it. Top views in the area rated for that reason.

Really nice spot you found. Is a bit steep heading to it as some people have said but is achievable. Thanks

Ribbit A steep walk down but took it slowly and still have two functioning ankles. The cache was found in such a perfect nook. Seems some muggle kids have also found it and loved it Smile. Great views and a nice spot away from the crowds down here. Spotted a few roos and a rabbit on the trek back up to the path. Thanks cazbol Ribbit

#GA359 - 14:30; Out and about to take advantage of triple points fortnight and this one was on the 'to do' list. I had picked up a couple on the way including an old traditional just after I left the carpark and then the nearby trig. Backtracked from the trig and made my way down the hill to GZ. Located the cache quickly. As the previous finder noted, the lid is broken, but it is in a sheltered spot unless the local wildlife evict it. TFTC cazbol Very HappyClan Cerberus

A wander down from the trig and in I went to begin my search. I must have had cache blindness, as after an unsuccessful search within, I then discovered the container and contents scattered around only metres from the tree. After signing the log, I gathered up all the bits and pieces and returned it to within. The container lid is a little worse for wear.

Took it slowly down the hill from the trig though I think the dodgy ankle is far less rickety now (finally!) Made an easy find in the obvious place, finding the logbook out of the still lidded cache box... Put it all back together before heading off into the gathering gloom. Thanks.

While taking a short stroll from the cafe on top after the lunch we got to about the cache, so I went on the last 100m to make the find. Saw a biggish fox too. Thanks cazbol for the cache.

On a GA caching run picked this up on the way to Davidson Trig. Great view from here. Thanks

It was a very easy find, I had to go get it myself because we went the wrong side of the fence and I was the right size to go under. The clue really helped. Cool hiding spot. Nice area. Took marble in exchange for a spiderman toy. Thanks. Very Happy

Out for a morning walk on Red hill I was able to make it a two cache day. Not many GA ones left these days. Thanks.

After visiting the trig nearby, decided to pop over for this cache on the way back to the lookout. Geohound Cougar was on his best behaviour and didn't chase the roos, but washappy on his lead just sniffing and marking every bush and tree along the path! Nice sized cache in a lovely huge old tree, thanks. Smile

Made my way via an unconventional route to this cache & managed to get even wetter in the process - plus there were lots of spider webs about, so I needed to again make good use of my handy dandy spider web removal tool (ie stick) that was waved about ahead of me all the way - I think the kangaroos were quite bemused by my antics. TFTC.

Dropped by to grab this one after a short but sharp storm. Made the going wet, but nothing to bad. Found the cache in it's hidey hole, log was signed, cache replaced and then started the trek back down to the car. That car park has certainly changed since I was last here.

Thanks for the cache Cazbol(oops), and Oz, and I hope you doing ok.

So....which side of the fence to walk down. I chose the wrong one however when we found somewhere to cross Norkmeister had to get through the fence....I virtually didn't even need to duck.....OK I did but not very much...hehehe. Maybe some days there are advantages to being short! TFTC.

Another of the 10th anniversary caches knocked off while picking up a couple of puzzles on Red Hill with BatGirl. From the top of the hill I suggested we walk one down each side of the fence, but BatGirl reckoned it was on one side so I conceded the point. Turns out it wasn't but not to worry. I clambered under on my face while she ducked her head and popped under Sick

Cache found in good order.

Nice quiet walk in the rain and wind. At least there was nobody else around to have to avoid. Perhaps I should have waited for the GPSr to settle a bit more as it was telling me to go an extra 70m. Good think I looked in there just because it looked like a good hide. Thanks for another walk up the hill.

It was a long way up and then in to retrieve this one, I'm glad nothing dropped on me or you would have heard the scream from there.
Nice view and a great stand of trees.

Out today doing a 15km walk, yeah only a small one for mr roo. This was my third find for the day. Lovely old tree and hope it lasts a few years more. Sat down on the rock infront of the tree and enjoyed the view. Thanks for bringing me here TFTC

This is a cool spot, I love the tree! And of course, always great views from here. It was a great afternoon for a ramble over Red Hill, this was my second of eight finds on Red Hill today.

Thanks Cazbol, nice work.

A very nice walk across from the restaurant on the hill. TFTC and the views.

Thanks cazbol – it was a very enjoyable walk across from the café and detouring via the Davidson Trig. Loved the Autumn colours below. Loved the character of the old trees.

Hoping there is still room for nesting parrots in there as well – a number of blue feathers were there

Well - that was nice. A lovely walk on a lovely sunny Winters day! And - I don't think I have been to this corner of the hill before! Love the views, with a few remaining autumn colours in the suburb below! Thanks again cazbol!

The weather ? Mad dogs & Englishmen & Cachers! Had planned a really long walk this weekend but was thwarted by the persistent but welcome rain. Cabin fever set in, damn it, there's a cache on the hill behind me, that will do. So in the driving rain, I went for a lovely 2 hour walk, wearing all the right gear. Old Red it is, no chance for any muggles today. Signed log and continued by wander. The kiosk on top looked really welcoming but I left my wallet at home. Thanks for the excuse to get out and about.

23-May-10
Sorry McPhan - I looked around the big trunk and there is the back end of a McPhan half swallowed by the tree! Nice spot for a hide thanks, lovely views across the suburbs then back to the lookout and off for a coffee Smile

Headed down here for the last find of the morning with both the Winglen bits. Thanks guys, you always make caching more fun and enlightening - like the comment re:- Pooh Bear as you came upon me waist deep in......the hiding spot. Glad I've lost weight as if not it may well have been that story all over again.

TFTC and the mature magenta.

Walked over from O'Malley Overview, a pleasant walk there and back. Admired the autumn colours below, Thanks.

18-May-10
Nice camouflage.
It had me going for a moment.

By 2:00 this morning I was getting sick of signing second on the log books after Cazbol.
But a *FTF* here more than makes up for it.

It is a good strenuous walk to GZ and a great view to look at while getting my breath back.

The GPS told me that "O'Malley Overview" was just about 1km away so I decided to walk over Mt Davidson rather than drive around.

I hope I make it in time for another first.

thanks
