Description
Join me at this virtual event on the 10th June in celebrating an item that is testament to smileys across the world.
Sure there maybe sharpies and pencils but the real history is in the ballpoint.
To log simply tell us about your fav ballpoint even show a photo if you wish.
Some fun facts.
- Each second of every day, more than 125 ballpoint pens are sold
- An average ballpoint pen will write approximately 50,000 words – or about 100 pages of text
- 4.3 pens are used, on average, by each person in the United States each year
- Ballpoint pens range from about 7-cents each, to over $730,000 for the Mont Blanc ballpoint
- Before acquiring the rights to the ballpoint pen, RAF flyers used feather pens in the cockpit
- The first ballpoint pens sold in New York (1945) cost $12 each – or about a day’s wages
- 3.4 billion ballpoint pens are imported into the USA each year
- 56% of individuals own a logoed or customized ballpoint pen
- 95% of the time, when a person receives a new pen, the first word they write is their name
See you on the 10th!

My favorite are the 4in1 pens with the colours: black, blue, green and red. TFTE
I don't have a favourite pen. I just grab whatever is at hand. These are the 2 I use at the moment. Thanks for organizing the event.

Hi themd
I don't have a favourite but I carry plenty in my caching bag just in case -
Just in case one runs out, one gets lost, one gets wet in the rain etc.
Also carry a pencil in my pocket; which reminds me of this story:
During the space race, the yanks spent millions trying to discover a biro that would work in the gravity free environment
What did the ruskis use?
They just continued on with the old and tried lead pencil
Cheers and thanks for my virtual trip today

Thank you themd for the invitation to this Virtual Event. It's a very cold, wet and windy day in Melbourne today.
My favourite pen for geocaching is the Uni PowerTank Retractable Ballpoint. I have a few of these: one in my geocaching bag, one in my handbag and one in my car. This means that wherever I am I am always ready to deal with the wet, soggy logs that I often find and it also has the ability to write at any angle.
I also have a favourite pen at work. It is a purple one (brand unknown) and is my favourite because no-one else that I work with has one. Therefore, no-one can accidently assume that it is theirs.
Time for me to go to work now (and take my special purple pen).

When it comes to geocaching, the uni Power Tank Retractable Ballpoint Pen is my pen of choice ... I have 3 or 4 that live in the car.
A pressurised ink delivery system enables Power Tank pens to write upside down, in extreme cold, on shiny surfaces, on wet paper and even underwater.
Not the cheapest pen around, but worth it for a reliable and necessary TOTT.

Here is my favourite ballpoint pen it was given to all staff of my current employer in 2005.
I use it to sign all important documents.

I have an absolute obsession with Pilot G2 pens, they are the best!
So smooth, just enough ink and last forever.
Thanks to themd for this virtual event!

We both remember the transition from pin and ink to biro and the relief that came with it. When caching we always carry a number of biros with us as one or the other of us will lose one or more particularly if our caching trip goes over 2 weeks or more. Many of the caching trails are dotted with y'stassie biros. We dont really have any favourites. The only condition is they write.
Thanks for this event and the chance to virtually meet up with other cachers THEMD. We look forward to their biro stories.

Thanks to Themd for creating this virtual event for this morning to celebrate the ballpoint pen.
We remember the transition from fountain pens to ballpoint pens back in our school days.
No more blotting paper!!!!!!
A favourite pen of the moment is our St Arnaud Event 2019 pen, it is still rolling after all this time.

Good morning themd and thankyou fo the invitation to attend this event.
Where would we be without the invention of the ball point pen?
I remember the amazement of first using a ball point pen. No more ink stained fingers, no more ink monitors, no more times of the edge of the nib catching in the rim of the inkwell and a flood of ink despoiling your immaculate copperplate written work.
But with it came the decline of handwriting as we knew it.
However my favourite pen that is constantly used by me today is the Uniball Power Tank which not only writes on wet paper logs, but writes continually when held upside down, allowing me to write from a semi prone position.
Looking forward to catching up with a few more attendees here today.
