Description
Pa and I were out to explore the opal fields south west of Lightning Ridge. There are three main areas. The Grawin was established in 1908 with the discovery of opal at “Hammond Hill” Further discoveries in 1920 at “Richard’s Hill” put the unofficial village on the map. It is believed that a field was discovered at Glengarry in 1905 but, it wasn't until the 1970’s that Glengarry became a major field in its own right. The newest of the three fields the Sheepyard was opened in 1984. We thoroughly enjoyed touring the area and finding some GC caches there, so why not expand the loot and plant some GCA caches as well. While visiting Lightning Ridge we decided to search for geocaches in and around the area. It took us a while to find this one but we got there eventually.

it might be "on the way", but we aren't going that way today. Kay cane this far for this cache. enjoying driving through the area chasing goats.
A herd of goats ran off as we approached GZ, including some cute little babies. It looks like the goats have been at this cache as we found the log on the ground amidst a whole lot of little bits of plastic. We replaced the container with a metal lolly tin, which will hopefully stand up better.

This series looked like a fun tour but as we were on bikes riding from The Ridge, we only found this one. Like sailors, ageing bike riders take notice of the wind direction. With 35km gusts, it was no problem getting to the cache but there was going to be no free ride going back. TFTC Smittengranny.
