Description

This is the next in my Battleships series. They are not a power trail as they are spread far and wide. It is another cache that I have hidden during Geocaching Australia's winter 2021 game of Battleships. Unfortunately if you find and sign this cache during the game period it won't earn you a chance to "fire" on the many battleships that have been hidden on your game grid, but it will increase your numbers and provide you with a slight diversion from driving. We camped near here on our way back south after visiting grandkids in Cairns. It is a very pleasant spot and was very green and shady when we pulled in. As a cheap camping spot there is plenty of room to park and turn a caravan. However it is very popular not just with caravaners but also with the locals who love to walk around this beautiful area. I have run out of swag, so I have left some pathtags. There is a film canister cache with log for the first to find to keep. Good luck.

It was relatively early when we arrived at this camping area and the campers were just starting to pack up. As there were two groups very close to the hide we decided to move on and come back later. When we had finished most tasks in Forbes we returned to find the area deserted. We began our search. It took a while before we found the tiny cache. We were pleased to add our name to the log.

Thanks for this cache Smittengranny. We enjoyed visiting this beautiful campsite.

After spending the night at this lovely free camp, we found this cache.

Many thanks Smittengranny for your cache placement here.

Met some local walkers...and a swooping magpie...not my last for the day!

Missed seeing this the first two attempts as campers were making it extremely difficult to have a search. No big problem, we were camped only 39 metres away so a third attempt was no inconvenience. When it started cooling off for the night and campers were dispersing, a quick circuit of GZ showed a prospective hide I'd missed before. Booyeah! TFTC Smittengranny. (The cache is now micro and the hint has changed)

Hi. Your cache is on a trip to Lake Alexandrina in the company of the flood waters of November 2022. I have replaced the cache, however it is no longer regular sized or at the BOT. It is now micro and at bellybutton height. If you don't want this, simply archive. I can't guarantee this will last here, but at least I tried.

I pulled up here totally expecting this one to be either gone or completely waterlogged. Set sail or sunk. But no, the flood waters didn't quite reach this high this time round I guess. Found it nice and dry and sitting almost completely out in the open as if someone had stood back a couple of meters and just thrown it under the tree. I covered it up when I left it though. It's good to see a couple more caches in Forbes for me to pick up. Unfortunately I pulled up at the Visitors Centre one at the same time as the inter-town coach service so I just drove on.

#GA5399 - 16:55; Day three of a mission through the Central West of New South Wales with Sol de lune to grab some of the dragonZones to our west was now on the homeward leg. After spending the night in Carinda, we headed south for home through Quambone, Coonamble, Gulargambone, Gilgandra, Dubbo, Tomingly, Parkes, Forbes and Grenfell. Today we collected finds in Walgett, Coonamble, Dubbo, Narromine, Parkes, Forbes and Weddin dragonZones and counties on our way home with some 2200 kms on the clock for the mission. Collected this one on our way through Forbes on the final leg of the homeward journey. Found it sitting out exposed, so after claiming the *FTF* and adding names to the log, rehid with a bit more cover! TFTC Smittengranny Very HappyClan Cerberus

Out on a road trip with LuckyL10n to grab a few dragonZones in outback NSW that we still had to visit including Bland, Carrathool, Lachlan, Cobar, Brewarrina, Walgett, Coonamble as well as grabbing a few caches in previously visited zones. A fun 3 days with over 2200 klms notched up along the way. A visit to the little town of Carinda which is famous for a visit by David Bowie to record a film clip for one of his single releases, was a bit of a highlight. A neat pub with great food and a good sort of atmosphere. Well worth the drive off the main road to check it out. At $55 a night the accommodation, while basic, was not too bad.

Thanks for the bold hide here. We covered it a little better to ensure it doesn't go walking.

Thanks for another one Smittengranny....and another FTF to boot. Very HappyVery HappyVery HappyClan CerberusClan CerberusClan Cerberus

I was with Smittengranny when she hid this cache so I am not claiming the first to find.
