Description
This is a special Burke & Wills cache listed on Geocaching Australia.
This cache requires you to visit a Burke & Wills historical location and take a photo as described along with your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in the picture. Once you have logged this cache as a find, you are required to load your picture to your log to validate your find.
Validating Your Log
Take a picture of your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in front of the monument and attach it to your online log.
Important Information
The Burke Wills Historical Society notes: "The actual route Burke and Wills followed once they left Camp 78 is unknown and one of the most intensely debated issues. Wills' map and some of his journals containing astronomical observations have been lost. Because the journals have never been transcribed, it means the expedition's track north of the Diamantina, through the gibber rises, confused sand dunes and extensive claypans, is a matter for conjecture."
Travel in Outback Australia can be extremely hazardous. Plan your trip with care and seek and follow local advice on what precautions to take. Be aware of private property restrictions. Do not risk your life to log this geocache.
About This Location
Samla, one of the four Indian sepoys on the expedition but the only Hindu, quit after the third day. The dietary restrictions of his faith prevented him from eating salted beef, the staple diet of the convoy. He suffered through two days with little to eat before obtaining permission to return to Melbourne. With four of the original recruits now departed, Burke took to hiring casual helpers and people with experience who offered their services. Of the other camel drivers, Belooch was a Parsee and Dost Mahomet and Essau Khan Muslims.

I drove right into the cemetery for this one. i didnt know there was a Bourke and Wills memorial here so i read the inscriptions with interest. TFTC.
Today i decided to tackle some virtual type caches around town. i usually prefer physical caches but i have had a really enjoyable time finding trig points, virtuals, and history ones today.

We've found quite a few B and W caches, so pleased to add this one to our list.
Our first Burke and Wills cache!
I've always been keen to find one, and was stoked to see we'd be crossing their path on this trip....

After all the years of coming to Bendigo it was time to finally check this one off the list
'Uncle Dan' finally decided to let us 'unclean' Melbourne Metro people to travel to regional so was great to be able to get back to Bendigo to catch up with family again and to grab a cache or two.
Many thanks for highlighting this area.

After visiting the Lost Trades Fair at the Racecourse, Muggle Hubby kindly drove us out here to the monument where dalerious took this photo for me.
The road through the centre of the cemetery is in very poor condition, but the size of the cemetery is an eye opener.

On our way from our accommodation to the Deborah Gold Mine to ride the trams again we nade a detour to find this monument. I saw it from the road and wondered if it was the correct one. Yep it was!

Found on the Vic leg of our 2017 escape trip.
A warm cloudy Spring day for a drive around in Bendigo again.
Hardly any muggles around today, and very quiet at this spot too.
Thanks for the cache GCA,
Roostaman

Caching around Bendigo today. Mainly attempting GCA placements. Followed GPSr from Ascot to Cemetery and drove in and parked in a good spot and took a short walk to GZ. Walked around the four sides of monument and took the required photo. I thought I would never get any Burke and Wills hides but this trip to Alexandra has opened the door and I am more than happy with the five that I managed to get. TFTC Geocaching Australia.

Day one of our lightning caching trip brought us to Bendigo and the Burke & Wills caches were on our list. A quick find in a very quiet place. TFTC
Another B&W's cache ticked off. Thanks for another history lesson. This is a bleak cemetery. TFTV
Somewhere on one of my various devices I have a photo of this monument but it would be a big job to find it. Rather than waste my time looking I sent the junior member of our caching team to take another photo. As she has limited skills with coordinates it became an exercise in frustration trying to explain which way to walk and what to look for. She did, however, find it in the end.
This cache is worth a shiny smiley to celebrate 15 years of Geocaching Australia.

#GA1022 - 13:15; I decided to make use of a spare day in Victoria with the geoteen to head north from Melbourne along the path taken by Burke and Wills (and others) to collect some more of the caches in this series. The plan was to reach Bendigo, then head on to Elmore before heading back to the big smoke. I'd collected my first for the day at Queens Park in Moonee Ponds, which had proved a bit of a nemesis cache for me until today. I'd collected a few more in the series at Bolinda Creek, Lancefield, Baynton, Mia Mia, Heathcote and Knowlesly before hitting Bendigo. On the approach to Bendigo, I realised that none of the local caches had loaded into my GPSr, so I had to resort to the iPhone to grab the coords for this one. Parked on a nearby street, only to find out once I reached GZ that I could have driven almost right up to the monument. Grabbed a few snaps and headed off again to continue the mission. Out and about, getting my cache bug back, thanks to the added game of DragonZone. Just me today whilst I have the day to myself. TFTC
Took the lazy option and drove in and almost right up to this one. Did some of the Melbourne ones in this series nearly 2 years ago and still haven't got them off my daughters camera to log them! Must do that! Thanks.
Rushed in in the pouring rain, quick pic and back into the car. TFTC.

Finally! After being part of the B&W project at the outset, I've been unable to get near any of the caches placed until now. So when a trip to Bendigo was planned, this was top of my list! I set it to the "centre point" in my gsak database and off we drove. Eventually here we are and there's a photo to prove it

Another link with the exploits of Burke and Wills. We enjoyed visiting this monument as it put another piece of the Burke and Wills jigsaw in place for us. The required photo has been added to the Gallery. TFTC
This was the last cache on our way home from bushwalking way out west yesterday. A nice easy find at 15:50 to finish off proceedings and it was great to be back on the trail of Messrs Burke and Wills after a long break.
Thanks again Geocaching Australia.

After completing "Bill & Ham's Excellent Adventure" (on that other GC site) last year, son and I have become enthused about finding cairns, plaques and memorials dedicated to other explorers as well. Last night I looked up the B&W series on GCA and to our delight there was a memorial in our newly adopted home town! So today we took a wander around the cemetery and found it. We've now got the itch to find more B&W caches...a fun goal for 2012!

As we were in Bendigo looking for frog (I think we are insane), GabGab and I stopped past here to grab another of the Burke & Wills series caches. An interesting monument in the middle of the cemetery. As we were there during the day there was no fear of any zombie activity.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks to, er, um, Geocaching Australia for listing this monument and the history for future explorers to find.

298. I'd like to say I'll finish this series one day but for now just happy to nab the ones that I come across in my travels. Was getting a bit worried that I mightn't be able to find and or photograph the monument in the dark but all good.

Finally managed to get to this one. I have often wondered why there has not been a cache in this area and now there is thanks to GCA & B&W.

I see dead people - everywhere! Interesting and thought provoking - you don't hear much about Gray and King, do you? We'll upload our photo when we work out how.

found this one on an a morning running around in Bendigo,
Got it Just as a strom was about to hit

It was nearing dusk, and we still had to get this one and the two B&W caches in Castelmaine before heading home to Melbourne. Luckily the gates were open, so we drove in and quickly grabbed the necessary photo at 5:50pm. A very crowded place, and this monument seems out of place here, crowded in by all of the neighbours. I am not all that familiar with Bendigo, but a move may be sensible.

In Bendigo for a function and having done a heap of B&W around Melbourne yesterday, we thought we pay this site a visit. Agree with The Morris, this monument should be moved to Roslyn Park.

After restocking plastic containers we took the chance to log one of our local B&W virtuals. I'm sure this was a very prominent position when it was placed but now it seems out of place. I vote to relocate it to Rosalind Park.

Found by Roma and Max.
Having just completed our government obligations this is our first stop in what is proving to be a very interesting series.
It is topical that the local authorities are currently considering refurbishing this monument and are asking for suggestions from the public to ascertain if it should be relocated to a more prominent location.
