Description
This is a special Burke & Wills cache listed on Geocaching Australia.
This cache requires you to visit a Burke & Wills historical location and take a photo as described along with your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in the picture. Once you have logged this cache as a find, you are required to load your picture to your log to validate your find.
Validating Your Log
Take a picture of your GPS receiver showing the same co-ordinates as the cache page (plus or minus 100 meters) and attach it to your online log.
Important Information
The Burke Wills Historical Society notes: "The actual route Burke and Wills followed once they left Camp 78 is unknown and one of the most intensely debated issues. Wills' map and some of his journals containing astronomical observations have been lost. Because the journals have never been transcribed, it means the expedition's track north of the Diamantina, through the gibber rises, confused sand dunes and extensive claypans, is a matter for conjecture."
Travel in Outback Australia can be extremely hazardous. Plan your trip with care and seek and follow local advice on what precautions to take. Be aware of private property restrictions. Do not risk your life to log this geocache.
About This Location
George Landells, pictured below, was engaged in the horse trade between Australia and India, and was well placed to import camels on his return trips. On the basis of his expertise with camels, he was appointed second-in-command to Burke, and even received a higher salary. His personality, however, was unsuited to his position, and particularly to a leader like Burke. Landells died in 1871.
William McDonough was reputed to have known Burke, or at least his family, in Ireland. He was hired for the expedition at £120 per annum. McDonough died in 1904 at the Melbourne Benevolent Asylum.

This was the last of my finds while on the way up to tomorrow's bushwalk but it took me ages to get to GZ due to road closures on the main access road. (It might have even taken me longer than it did for B&W to get there all those years ago. ) Anyhoo, once I finally got there, I took the necessary shots at 17:10 and finally headed for 'home'.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.

What started out as a quick 40km trip to Gunny to pick up Robyn's dinosaur racer turned into a 240km jaunt across the countryside to some out of the way places and a few remote caches.
This cache has been on my radar for a long time but we're never close enough or have time enough for the detour. Today we made time.
Our thanks to The Morris for this B&W cache.

After staying overnight in Swan Hill, we headed towards the south east to look for caches around Quambatook, Boort, Mount Terrick Terrick, Pyramid Hill and Kerang before returning back to Swan Hill. We had a very enjoyable day visiting places we had not seen before. One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to visit a number of sites that Burke and Wills had travelled through on their epic south to north expedition. Tragowel was one of the places we visited. Two photos have been added to the Gallery: the first shows our two GPS units, one showing the distance from GZ, the other the coordinates at the location where the photo was taken; and Mrs y'stassie holding the two GPS units. Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.
#GA1086 - 07:50; Day 2 of the Melbourne Mega Mission with Sol de lune, now enroute from Kerang to Anglesea. Second stop for the morning and another B&W cache off the 'to do' list. Made our way along the dirt road to the canal and another welcoming party of mozzies. A couple of snaps and it was off for Pyramid Hill. TFTC Geocaching Australia

Day 2 on the way to the Surf Coast Mega with LuckyL10n.......we came the long way to grab a few GCA caches....
Headed down the dirt road and soon arrived at the GZ area. Grabbed a copy of photos and then hit the road to Pyramid Hill.
Thanks for the cache.....and another B&W crossed off the list.

We did attempt this one on the day it was published but our approach road was impassible due to wet weather, however no such issues today!

The Kerang Historical Society arranged for 2 camel cutouts as part of the anniversary celebrations - this is the Tragowel Homestead one. The other is at Reedy Station
Found this afternoon, at around 4.00pm. We were suprised that this one hadn't yet been found, after more than a month. We noticed that the road was impassable recently, but today it was very dry, as we followed a huge semi trailer along the potholed road in to GZ. We took the necessary photo, then back along the dirt road, continuing our way to Swan Hill this evening.

Final leg of the road in was impassable today so we will call in and pay our respects next time we pass by!
