Description
The other day I was walking over Stephen Street, when - purely by accident - I stumbled over this LINZ marker. Having recently learned about the trig-station caches on geocaching.com.au, a fresh dosis of dopamine was released in my body. "Yay", I thought.
Back home, trying to log this astonishing find, I realised that only trig stations are listed as trig station caches. Whencewithwhere this geomark, a plaque, did not count. "Boohoo", I thought.
But why couldn't it count? It is a part of town that normally you probably wouldn't visit, it is wedged in between Rudd Road and Spiers Road (sort of) - both of great historic significance (you can do the caches on both roads to learn their significance), plus this stretch of road offers great views over the whole Wakari area - you can easily see as far as Waverey, Ross reservoir, Buttars Peak. Especially when there is fog or low hanging mist the view is spectacular, I find.
And thus, if you're looking for a quick, easy smiley on a dotless day, this virtual cache is waiting for you. It is the geomark plaque you are looking for: there is no container to find, and no paper log to sign, but - as per expectancy - you are required to upload some form of photographic evidence that you were indeed there. This can be anything from a grainy Kodak-picture, to a hoity toity production shoot by David Ha-Hamilton, as long as it showcases that you visited the spot: no armchair caching allowed.
Happy hunting :)
