Description
This is a special Burke & Wills cache listed on Geocaching Australia.
This cache requires you to visit a Burke & Wills historical location and take a photo as described along with your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in the picture. Once you have logged this cache as a find, you are required to load your picture to your log to validate your find.
Validating Your Log
Take a picture of your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in front of Flinders Street station and attach it to your online log.
Important Information
The Burke Wills Historical Society notes: "The actual route Burke and Wills followed once they left Camp 78 is unknown and one of the most intensely debated issues. Wills' map and some of his journals containing astronomical observations have been lost. Because the journals have never been transcribed, it means the expedition's track north of the Diamantina, through the gibber rises, confused sand dunes and extensive claypans, is a matter for conjecture."
Travel in Outback Australia can be extremely hazardous. Plan your trip with care and seek and follow local advice on what precautions to take. Be aware of private property restrictions. Do not risk your life to log this geocache.
About This Location
John King, who Wills' father suggested would have preferred returning to Melbourne "at least unostentatiously, if not in sackcloth and ashes", was instead met at the train station by a huge crowd. One newspaper's account: "The arrival of the train was hailed with vociferous cheering. The carriage in which King was a passenger was at once recognised by its being decorated with flags. Such was the 'rush' to see King that it was some time before the porters could reach he carriage door, and when they had reached it they experienced considerable difficulty in getting the door opened."
King was escorted to an open carriage, which was followed and mobbed thoughout its course along Collins and William streets to Government House.
"King was assisted upstairs, for though he looked very healthy and robust, he was scarcely able to stand. He was taken into the room adjoining the Chief Secretary's office, where he was shortly afterwards joined by his sister. In a few minutes the approaches to Government House, the lobbies, stairs and landing were impassably crowded, so that it was necessary for the police to clear a passage for His Excellency from his own office to that of the Chief Secretary. The excitement was almost too much for the poor fellow, and it was thought advisable to get him away as speedily and as privately as possible to St Kilda, where his sister resides."
King died nine years later, aged 31. He too is buried at Melbourne General Cemetery.

Thanks so much for highlighting this Geocaching Australia. Appreciate your efforts
The west side of the bridge and outside the entrance to the station was very busy but I managed to get selfie mode working on the tablet to get the required image.
Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.
Unfortunately I still can not get the hang of the gps. oh well....
This is the first in the series I hope eventually to complete. I can see it will take me far afield in the process but is a challenge I am keen to tackle.
I continued on after the event to find a couple more B&W ones.
Thanks for the opportunity to log this Locationless as well as being able to claim a scavenge for the States of the Nation Games
Cache of course!!! Decided to tackle some of the B&W series near the city. This was the first we arrived at and we were disappointed to find the wonderful façade of this incredible old building covered up.
But we have seen it in its normal state many times and even took a photo for this cache many years ago which we never got around to logging.
Thanks.
Photo uploaded soon. It's still on the camera.
A friend was offering some furniture we were interested in... the only catch was that it was in the CBD.
On the upside, the best time to collect large objects from the city is late at night, especially in the 35+ degree weather we've had for the past few days. So, I might be able to finally log a couple of caches that have been Muggle Central each time I've visited.
Car filled with lengths of metal, I parked at the top end of the city, and set off on foot. This was the 7th cache of the evening, and the second of 3 B&W virtuals I wanted to get tonight.... it's fun doing these in the dark.

I took this covert shot during a short break in the day's events.
I had a bit of time before I had to get out to the airport so I grabbed a bike from the Bike Share rack and headed off to find the next.
TFTC and cheers
OldSaint.
I don't think I realised how old the train station was. Must've been a stark contrast for King from travelling on camel/horse up North to finally arriving home in Melbourne by train.

Thanks for the B&W series.
I'm sure the guy arming the myki barriers at the station wondered why I walked out and back in so quickly!
Thanks
After visiting the GLW in Hospital it was time to get this one off the To-Do list as it has been there for far to long.
Photo to Follow
Located the correct structure, photograph attached.
Second 'find' today in this interesting series - very busy here as well. A familiar Pub nearby !!

1319Km from home.
After a day of aircraft engineering and design presentations I needed a break so domed the walking shoes and headed off to put a few more caches into the tank of th Roaring Ford.
Bit of puzzle for a while of how to get the GPSr into the picture when it is tt also the camera, then a bit of a gamble and tried out the camera in my tablet.

Thanks for the cache Geocaching Australia.

Discovering Australia, one hide at a time.
Grabbed this one on the way to the other nearby caches. It was dark and with poor lighting conditions, the photo isn't very clear. Hopefully its good and clear enough. TFTC
Thanks for the cache and the memories.
Another one down for the Burke and Wills series. TFTC GeocachingAustralia.
Way too many emo muggles around, also, was caching via iphone, so couldt even take it with me, and the station! I hope my finger can do it..justice?
Now, to start on the rest of the series?!?
(Edit: Woohoo! 400th GCA/GC find!)
I was in the city for the morning and early afternoon doing some caches. It was cold, but the sun was out. I was trying to get some caches I had attempted before but was unable to find. I was at fed square and I remembered this one, last time i was here, the battery in my camera was dead flat, so this time, had a camera full of charge for this Burke and wills challenge.
All time great Melbourne landmark.
Thanks Geocaching Australia.
The Burke and WIlls series in interesting, and I would love to have the spare time to do the entire series,in sequence of course, from go to woe.
Chipping away at them on visits in various towns/states will have to do.
Anway, you get the idea, it is me in the photo with my GPSr and a silly look on my face
Thanks for making this series of listings, I did enjoy the ones I hae completed today.
Cheers
TFTV and rerun.
Very busy as always at this location, but The Empire managed to take the picture before the ped light went green!

And , another history lesson.
Took another awful photo stationed on the opposite side of the intersection. You have to wonder what people think of these people taking a picture over their shoulder holding a weird looking phone !
Thanks to the B&W organisers.
T pickies, L. Thanks Geocaching Australia.
Loved the B&W series. Easy spot on the way around the city. Like the caches when you don't have to worry about looking suss.

Beautiful Flinders station.
Thanks
Thousands of muggles around
I love our vibrant city! With Grand Final fever, all those feral Collingwood supporters spewing out onto the steps of Flinders Street, I didn't look too dodgy taking a pic of my iPad infront of the station.

The first of an afternoon out with GabGab. We found parking quite close and so it was just a quick stroll over the road to the location. I expect that there was no where near as much traffic back in the day. A quick couple of photos and our journey continues.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks to everyone involved in the B&W project.
*Overall Experience: 3*
GAFF 1
Thanks for a great series to all involved.
Photo shows my GPSr and hand.
Thanks for the cache.
On the day of the Federal Election, along with Robyn of The Morris and Princess Diala, we voted to follow the B & W Party.
At the location of this virtual cache we were able to blend in with the regular tourists and capture a photo of Alice – The Ship of the Desert (SW0228) along with the GPS’r.
It was interesting to contemplate the contrast in scenery and activity 150 years on.
