Description
This is a special Burke & Wills cache listed on Geocaching Australia.
This cache requires you to visit a Burke & Wills historical location and take a photo as described along with your GPS receiver and if possible yourself in the picture. Once you have logged this cache as a find, you are required to load your picture to your log to validate your find.
Validating Your Log
Take a picture of your GPS receiver and if possible yourself at the front of the State Library of Victoria and attach it to your online log.
Important Information
The Burke Wills Historical Society notes: "The actual route Burke and Wills followed once they left Camp 78 is unknown and one of the most intensely debated issues. Wills' map and some of his journals containing astronomical observations have been lost. Because the journals have never been transcribed, it means the expedition's track north of the Diamantina, through the gibber rises, confused sand dunes and extensive claypans, is a matter for conjecture."
Travel in Outback Australia can be extremely hazardous. Plan your trip with care and seek and follow local advice on what precautions to take. Be aware of private property restrictions. Do not risk your life to log this geocache.
About This Location
Among the collection of expedition artefacts here at the State Library of Victoria are locks of the explorers' hair, a camel buckle ... and a "love glove".
The single glove is supposedly one of a pair given to Wills by Julia Mathews, a 15-year old actress who performed in Beechworth in 1854 while Burke was a police officer there. Burke fell in love with her, followed her on tour, offered to marry her and attempted to win over her mother - with little success. Six years later he was still in love and, before departing on the expedition, made at least one will which left everything to Julia. Even on the journey, the secretary of the exploration committee was sending Burke notes about "you know who".
However the glove in question was given to Wills - it was from his descendants that the library obtained it in 1999. Or perhaps she gave Burke and Wills one each. Who knows?

In 'town' for the night after dropping my daughter and her friend @ Rod Laver Arena for a concert. That left me with about 7 - 8 hours to explore the city, grabbing caches and photos. Geocaching - always a great way to explore areas. It's amazing to see the country in the eyes of a Geocacher and finding things that you may never have discovered if not for them. Not a fan of all the traffic so it's great to be here after the rush hour has died away.
Appreciate you highlighting this area and bringing me here.
From this cache I was doing Burke and Wills caches and a couple of history caches as I passed them.
Requested image was taken and attached.
Thanks Geocaching Australia for the cache.
I am currently reading Burke and Wills book by Peter Fitzsimons. A really good read and a Piece of Classic Aussie History. A Beautiful Building to visit.
Thanks Geocaching Australia

This series helps me to go through the interesting points in the city of Melbourne, it's really appreciated.
Opportunity saw me near the library, so I jumped on the chance to get this one.
Would have logged the find sooner, but I had to wait for the Mrs to send me the photo which was on her camera.
I love these interesting B&W snippets.
Luckily Wills wasn't around today, as I guess he'd been in severe trouble and end up on a register

Thanks for the B&W series.
Between nights out celebrating birthdays and the Tour de France, the whole family has had a lazy weekend... I needed to get out of the house for a walk, so a trip to the city seemed like a good idea.
A perfect evening for visiting a few more of the B&W sites I've not managed to get to yet. As always, entertaining and informative. And, given that Burke and Wills virtuals are such a big part of the GCA experience, appropriately my hundredth find... and the next.
Thanks, Geocaching Australia.

There were a lot of people hanging around despite the cold wind. The lighting behind the banners made the building look very impressive.
Love these Burke & Wills sites.
Seventh 'find' today in this interesting series - an impressive Library !

Hello to our friends fro the SLV at this location today. More than a few coffees were had while we worked the logistics of this activity.
A quick photo on the steps and we were heading off to another B&W cache around town.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks to everyone involved in the B&W Project.

Thanks for bringing us here.
It was a rainy Saturday afternoon, a quick drive into the city to pick up some of the B&W virtuals was in order.

On the day of the Federal Election, along with Robyn of The Morris and Princess Diala, we voted to follow the B & W Party.
At the location of this virtual cache we were able to blend in with the regular tourists and capture a photo of Alice – The Ship of the Desert (SW0228) along with the GPS’r.
It was interesting to contemplate the contrast in scenery and activity 150 years on.

With such an epic journey, maybe it wasn't such a good idea to become infatuated with girls Burke...
Many thanks for the Pheltern and The Morris for the company shared throughout the day.
